Posted May 16, 200718 yr Terry Wogan has complained of Eurovision "Bloc voting" - warning of a Song Contest "Cold War" - as neighbours vote Serbia's Marija Serifovic to the top spot. The host thinks there is a problem with countries, particularly in the east, voting for those close to them, rather than on merit. He told BBC News Online: "It's a pity it's not about the songs any more. There's a definite Baltic bloc and a Balkan bloc and they've been joined in recent years by a Russian bloc. We won the Cold War but we lost the Eurovision." And, in an article written before the competition and published in the Sunday Telegraph, he explained: "Once again, Balkan and Balt will have voted for each other; those within the shadow of the Russian bear will have voted for the old oppressor, just in case; Scandinavians will have given each other the nod; guest workers dotted throughout Europe will have done their bit for the lands of their birth." Another name in broadcasting, former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read, told BBC Breakfast on Sunday he was also worried about the trend. "This voting for the neighbours is just a nonsense now," he commented. "You could sit there last night and you knew who they were going to give the 12 points to, every single time." Source: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a46559/w...n-cold-war.html Personally, this is pretty much the reason I want him to go from Eurovision. Not even mentioning that anyone else who announced the wrong MYMU winner would have been fired on the spot, claiming this year that someone would give Serbia their 12 points, when they'd already been awarded their points, and asking "who will they give their 11 points to" It seems to me that he's above criticism with the public, because he's been with Eurovision from the start ... but surely he should know the contest better?
May 16, 200718 yr I didn't understand why he said all that 11 points malarky on Montenegro's vote. Was it because they were knew so might not know?! His pessimism annoys me now anyway. He was hilarious in 2001 but hasn't been anywhere near as funny since. I liked the semi-final commentators much more truth be told.
May 16, 200718 yr He was much better last year, he's past his best now, I think I laughed about 4 times on Saturday :( He would be a LOT better if he didn't keep going on about the pathetic notion of 'political voting', I've half a mind to send him a terse e-mail, someone of his experience should know better <_< And yes, 2001 was his finest moment
May 16, 200718 yr gosh like only the neighbours voted for the winner!!!only 4 countries did not vote for serbia so 37 did and that's why Marija won!!!
