I read somewhere that the Eurovision rules didn't allow Ireland to actually play their instruments in the performance. I didn't know this was the case. Does that mean that Bulgaria weren't playing the drums either?!

That's a pretty ridiculous rule tbh.... Why the hell NOT allow acts to actually play the instruments.... That's probs why Hanna Pakarinen didn't do better than she did, most of the actual Rockers (being pretty purist when it comes to "Live" performing...) who would perhaps have voted for her, were likely put off doing so by the fact that the musicians were miming playing their instruments....

A couple of days ago Stoyan said in an interview that because of the requirements of the organizers of the show Elitsa and he were allowed to play only the percussion instruments (drums etc.) but not all of the instuments that were originally part of the music instrumental of the song.

So they did perform live, if that is your question. However, it's true that there are some stupid rules..... I suppose our song would have sounded even better if it wasn't for those requirements.

I think the rule exists purely because there is around 20 seconds between each act; just not enough time to get set up for every act.

Also, as for Bulgaria, that rule existed for them as well, but there would naturally be sounds of them playing the drums picked up by their microphones.

Answer is simple then - have the stage sectioned off into two parts.... Either that, or just have everyone use the same sound equipment or instruments....

As far as I know the only instruments allowed to be used live during the show are piano and drums. so that answers the question.. Bulgaria did performed live for the most part because their main instruments were the drums.
