De Niro and Pacino pair up again

De Niro (left) and Pacino (right) last starred together in Heat

Movie legends Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are to share the big screen for only the second time in their careers, according to film trade paper Variety.

The stars have signed up to play police investigators hunting a serial killer in thriller Righteous Kill.

Producer Randall Emmett said the movie was set in motion by the two actors. "They're friends, and this really all got started from that," he said.

Unlike their last film, 1995's Heat, the duo will act together throughout.

In Heat, they only had two scenes in common - while in 1974's The Godfather Part II, their characters never met on screen.

"This is an event in world history," said co-producer Avi Lerner in Cannes.

"They were in two scenes in Heat. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together."

Righteous Kill, which has a reported budget of $60m, is being written by Russell Gewirtz - who scripted last year's hit heist movie Inside Man.

Casting is under way for other roles in the project

I personally can't wait for this, arguably the two finest actors ever together again. Lets hope it's not another dissapoiting thriller like the last few De Niro films. -_-

50 Cent signs for Pacino's pair-up with De Niro

Rapper 50 Cent has joined the cast of the high-profile thriller Righteous Kill, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in their second onscreen pairing ever.

The Get Rich or Die Tryin' star will play a drug dealer who helps two detectives, played by the veteran actors, as they try to catch a serial killer. De Niro and Pacino will be onscreen together for nearly the entire film, the second time ever they are paired up in a movie. They did not share any screen time in 1974's The Godfather: Part Two and were together for only two scenes in Michael Mann's Heat in 1995.

According to the film's producer, Randall Emmett, the film came about from a common desire by De Niro and Pacino to work together again. "They're friends, and this really all got started from that," he told Variety.

"This is an event in world history," he added, with characteristic Hollywood understatement. "They were in two scenes in Heat. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together."

Righteous Kill will be helmed by veteran Hollywood director and producer Jon Avnet, who made 1996's Up Close and Personal and 1991's Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe, based on a script by Russell Gewirtz, who wrote the script for the Spike Lee thriller Inside Man in 2006. Production begins in September in Connecticut and will then move on to New York.

Righteous Kill is a remake of a hit French thriller, 36 Quai des Orfèvres - the address of the French CID in Paris - which starred the reigning kings of Gallic cinema, Gérard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil. Ironically, when the film was released in 2004, director Olivier Marchal billed 36 Quai des Orfèvres as the French equivalent to Heat.

Why have they picked 50 bloody Cent? He is in no way good enough to act along arguably the two greatest actors of all time. <_<

I cannot wait to see this though, even if Fiddy is in it. It really is ridiculous that De-Niro and Pacino have only been in one film together where they were in the same scene, so this is bound to be great. ^_^

Putting 50 Cent in this film is just plain ludicrous to be honest.... If they really had to get a Rapper to play the role, what's wrong with the likes of LL Cool J, Ice T or Mos Def..? All of whom are certainly decent actors and can run rings round 50 Cent... Hell, even Justing fukkin' Timberlake would be a better choice given his surprisingly good acting job in "Alpha Dog".... Having sat through the utter sh!te that was "Get Rich Or Die Trying" it's blatantly obvious to me that "Fiddy" has absolutely no right to be sharing a screen with two of the greatest living Film Actors of all time.....

Donnie Wahlberg Joins 'Righteous Kill'

cinematical.com

Whenever I hear or see that Donnie Wahlberg has a new gig, I imagine an excited and nervous Johnny Drama. Never mind that it is actually Wahlberg's cousin, John Alves, who is the basis for the Entourage character. I prefer to think that it's the former New Kid on the Block who is the real-life Drama. However, I can't even imagine how crazy Drama would be if he got the kind of job that Wahlberg just got. It may actually be his best non-television role since, well, ever. It's more like the kind of job his more-famous brother Mark would get (if he wanted to slum it just a bit). It's a part in Righteous Kill, the Jon Avnet-directed film that has the honor of reuniting Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. It also stars 50 Cent. Wahlberg announced the gig while promoting his Spike TV miniseries The Kill Point, though he didn't mention anything about his character nor did he say how big a role it would be. What he did say is that it's going to be a challenge and that he gets to drive to Boston every night. That sounds pretty significant to me.

Righteous Kill, which was scripted by Inside Man screenwriter Russell Gewirtz, is about two detectives tracking down a serial killer. Pacino and DeNiro play the detectives. 50 Cent plays a drug dealer who helps them out. Could Wahlberg be the serial killer? Since we don't yet know any other actors cast in the film, I'd maybe make the assumption. Of course, the part of the killer could be quite small. And he probably wouldn't have too much screen time with Al and Bob. And Wahlberg did imply he'll be working closely with the acting legends. So, I'd rather make the assumption that Wahlberg is another one of the good guys (or, as in the case of 50 Cent, someone who aids the good guys). Either way, I'm happy for the guy. Additionally, feel free to check out this newly-released teaser poster for the film (which may or may not be legit). Righteous Kill hits theaters next year

Can't wait to see the movie :yahoo: Those two are one of my favourite actors :yahoo:

I certainly have a lot more time for Donnie Wahlberg as an actor than I ever did when he was in that awful Boy Band LOL..... :P He gave a good performance in "Saw 2" and one or two other films that I've seen him in, he was pretty good in those too.... I think he'd make a good serial killer tbh.... And I reckon there's plenty of scope for a "Seven"-style psychological gameplay between the detectives and the killer.... "Inside Man" was an excellent, cleverly scripted piece of cinema, so I'm having very good vibes about this film, here's hoping that "Fiddy's" role is more of a cameo though......

Fiddy??? :lame: isnt he a bit of a spent force now??  do people in hiphop circles give a funk about any G Unit stuff? surprised someone like T.I. or David Banner wasnt signed up instead

was watching that British film show last night had Martin Kemp on it talking about The Krays. I thought wonder if anyone has thought of teaming him up with Luke Goss (from Hellboy 2) in a new brit gangster/thriller, you know like a 21stC Krays retooled to fill the void where Guy Ritchie was once standing probs would make a change from Danny Dyer

Wouldn't actually be that bad an idea.... Goss and Kemp are certainly decent enough actors. Goss played notorious 60s gangster Charlie Richardson in the film "Charlie" a few years back, didn't get the hype that "The Krays" did, but I thought it was a pretty decent film actually.....

This is released in exactly one month. Going by the trailer it looks promising. I doubt it's going to win any oscars etc but it looks like it could easily be the best film either De Niro or Pacino have been in a quite sometime. Not really sure about Jon Avnet directing it though, especially considering he directed Pacino's last film 88 Minutes which was utter $h!t. Someone like Michael Mann or Scorsese would've been perfect. Hopefully it will live up to the hype, because although they are without a doubt two of the greatest actors of all time, both De Niro and Pacino's careers have been going downhill for the past decade imo. The last truly great film De Niro was in was Ronin in 1998 and Pacino's alst great film was Any Given Sunday in 99 if you ask me, although Insomnia was very good. This film could be a comeback for both of them, and tbh De Niro's upcoming projects all look very good. Everybody's Fine, Edge Of Darkness, Street Of Dream and Frankie Machine which either Michael Mann or Scorsese are going to direct.

Hopefully they will both promote it heavily and do interviews together.

Yeah, I would've felt a bit more assured with someone like Mann, Scorcese or perhaps even David Fincher at the helm.... Looking at Avnet's profile on IMDb, the list of films he's directed doesn't exactly impress me tbh....

And I'm still somewhat unsure about 50 Cent. To say the least..... -_-

Well maybe they wanted Jean Reno but he was held up with making the Pink Panther 2  ...and btw isnt it not now 50 cent isnt it 'Curtis Jackson' in scary wanted to be taken seriously as actor vibe....
