Chart Commentary

 

Prince continues his domination of the top 40, with Love displacing Black Sweat with a record 12-1 jump to number 1. This makes Prince the only artist so far to replace himself at number one.

 

Slightly lower down in the chart, Keyshia Cole jumps 9-4 in her track, Love's 6th week on the chart.

 

Also, LL Cool J jumps 34-8 with his new song, Control Myself, which sees him collaborate with Jennifer Lopez. This also puts him within striking distance of next week's number 1, however, the odds are stacked against him, seeing as only two other acts have acheived similar jumps - Rihanna with SOS (Rescue Me) which jumped 7-1 7 weeks ago (and incidentally rebounds 10-6 this week) and Prince's Love, which of course jumped 12-1 this week.

 

Entries in the 11-20 area come from Britney Spears, Kelis, Prince, and Elena Risteska. Britney Spears enters at number 11 with her track, And Then We Kiss, making it her highest charting single on the Tyron1 Top 40 since Everytime reached #1 for 5 weeks in June 2004.

 

Kelis enters at #13 with her first single from her upcoming album, Kelis Was Here, named Bossy. This is her first charting single since she reached #2 with 'In Public' last year with her husband, NaS.

 

Shakira jumps 40-15 with her eccentricly titled Hips Don't Lie. Her previous high came with Don't Bother, which made #2 in February, but was prevented from reaching number 1 by The Raconteurs. Her highest charting single to date is Whenever, Wherever, which held the top spot for 8 weeks in 2002, and finished 2nd in the Year End Charts of 2002.

 

Prince achieves his 2nd highest debut on the Tyron1 Top 40 with Beautiful, Loved & Blessed, in which he teams up with protege Tamar, which lands safely at #17. His highest debut came at #10 with Black Sweat, which currently resides at #2.

 

And finally, landing at #20 comes Macedonia's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, Elena Risteska, with Ninanajna. This is her first entry in the Tyron1 Top 40, but other Eurovision songs have acheived success in the charts - most notably Jessica Garlick and Javine. Jessica reigned at number one for 12 weeks with Come Back in 2002, following her 3rd place finishing in that year's contest, and Javine reigned for 5 weeks with Touch My Fire, which finished a disappointing 22nd in the actual contest.
