'Music Box' and 'Daydream' are the hard ones for me.

I think 'Butterfly' and 'Mimi' are both excellent albums. I can't think of a bad song on 'Butterfly' and 'Mimi' is the only good album (rather than collection of good songs) I have bought in years. But it's still possible to divide the very best songs from the rest.

'Music Box' and 'Daydream' are perfect. How can I vote anything from them off?

I find Music Box too samey, a lot of the tracks sound to similar and I never remember the names of them, because they all kind of gel into 1, whereas on other albums each song has a distinctive sound and can be deciphered straight away.

I don't know what it is about Daydream, I just never quite warmed to it.

Daydream is my 2nd favourite album by fan, I mean Forever, fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby and I Am Free are like some of my favourite Mariah songs :D

Once, I was a prisoner.....

Great song. And it has 'Melt Away' - my all-time favourite Mariah song. It's her perfect pop song in my opinion. All artists should have one.

I never really warmed to Melt Away or Subtle Invitation, but everyone else seems to love them.

Her vocals on 'Subtle Invitation' are pretty dreadful. It was great when she did it live though. She was lying down when she sang it!

I think the reason people like that song is because it doesn't sound like anything else on that album or from her back catalogue. After 'Glitter' flopped, the plan was to make her next album a big band record. Jazz and swing.

In the end they went for limp and chavvy RnB. And wondered why it failed.

Only 'Subtle Invitation' survived.

I think apart from 'Charmbracelet' everything she's done is great.

She started off brilliantly with her debut,Emotions was also great, but i think 'Music Box','Daydream' and 'Butterfly' were her bestt albums, though 'Dreamlover' is overated. 'Rainbow' was a mixture i think,i don't know why everyone loves 'Can't Take That Away' as ii think it's a dull and boring song. The really good songs on it were 'Heartbreaker','Bliss','X-Girlfriend','Crybaby','Petals' and 'Thank God I Found You'. Glitter is underated,i think it has some great songs on it such as 'Lead The Way','Reflections','Never Too Far' and 'Twister'. Charmbracelet is her worst, whilst 'Through The Rain' may be a good song her vocals are very annoying on it,'Boy' is hideous and so is much of it but its saved by the last 4 songs being great. But 'The Emancipation Of Mimi' is stunning,it has some great songs on it with only 'To The Floor' and 'One And Only' being rubbish.

I hope her next album will be brilliant as i fear it may be one of her last.

I just don't really like anything from Charmbracelet at all. Well a few tracks are ok, but nothing special.

Conor I edited your post because it was disjointed and was difficult to read.

I agree with a lot of what you have said about the best songs and some of the awful songs, but my favourite albums are different to yours. :P

Why would you say her next album may be one of her last after Mimi was so successful?

I have to agree with almost everything that Tim and Connor said...

Charmbraclet flopped for a reason, it was bad. There were about 4good songs in it, Through the Rain, The One, Bringin' On The Heartbreak and sunflowers For Alfred Roy. The Emancipation is a good album, but I really dont get why everyone says its so good. Yes it has some really good tracks on it, but I dont think there is anything that really sets it that much apart from other albums out at this time, although its definatly a great comeback album.

I think Music Box, Daydream and Butterfly are her best, althouugh I have to admit, although she didnt really write many of the songs, that Merry Christmas is one of her best. I think she sings the carols so well, you will all probably disagree...

However, I dont think we have seen the last of Mariah yet. We will get another 2-3 albums of solid quality and that will sell well, until something happens, but much like her breakdown and all the problems she has bounced back and is a strong as ever... :)

Actually I forgot, Charmbracelet served the purpose of giving me Bringin' On The Heartbreak which I LOVE.

No, no Dan I agree with you, Merry Christmas is a good solid album, one of best selling Christmas albums of all time if I am not mistaken. ^_^

When I get a new album and I like it, it's instantly "the best album in the world" but once the hype around it has died down and the project is finished, I get to listen to it and think "well it's a good album, but not as good as I made out" which is the case with Mimi, at first it was my favourite Mariah album, now I think it's definately a great album, but not Mariahs best, but still each to their own. ^_^

I heard a rumour on her forums last year that she plans to

retire in a few years.

I hope this is not true

btw After 'Music Box' survivor.

Christmas album or go straight onto Daydream????

My list of favourites matches Dan's perfectly. But I won't hear a word against 'Mimi'

Yes, it is not her best but it's still so much better than her last few albums.

And now we live in the iPod culture - where supposedly great albums only have a few good songs on ('Employment' and 'Breakaway' are examples of this for me, I know most would disagree) but are still worth buying because discs are so much cheaper now - 'Mimi' seems like a brilliant album in comparison. It's not just that there's little filler; or even that there are so many strong, perfectly-sung, well-crafted tracks. It's that the songs sit well together.

It doesn't sound like a 'Now!' album or a tween diva desperately trying new styles to see what fits ('Stripped' is great but it's rather messy). It sounds, like 'Music Box' and 'Daydream', focused and consistent.

And it can't be praised enough for that.

Don't worry darl it will be just rumours, she won't leave us just yet. :P

Erm I don't know what people want to do... anyone else got an opinion on this?

I don't want to be all heavy handed and make a decision without asking you all.

Completely agree.

yes do Merry Christmas its so good, although its not really the season

I agree Tim, although not about breakway. Mimi is a very solid album, it has well crafter, well sung songs on it... and definatly a Mariah to be remembered. Its a very special album, but to me it lacks that extra "it" factor which sets it apart from other, which is something MB, B, D & MC all have....

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Breakaway, but I only listen up to about track 8, because I think the rest is filler. -_-
