Posted May 22, 200718 yr Grease Star Caulfield Makes UK Debut in Chicago Date: 21st May 2007 American screen and stage actor Maxwell Caulfield – who starred with a young Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1982 movie musical sequel Grease 2 (pictured) – will make his UK stage debut next week in the West End production of Chicago. He’ll play super-slick lawyer Billy Flynn for a limited five-week stint, from 29 May to 30 June 2007, in the Kander and Ebb musical at the Cambridge Theatre. In addition to Grease 2, a cult favourite, Caulfield is best known for his starring roles in American TV series Dynasty and The Colbys. He’s performed on Broadway in An Inspector Calls and Class Enemy, while his other stage credits include Tryst, My Deah, Our Leading Lady, My Night with Reg, Sleuth and The Elephant Man. His other screen credits include La Femme Nikita, The Real Blonde, The Boys Next Door, The Man Who Knew Too Much and Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman. As Billy Flynn, he steps into shoes previously filled by the likes of Tony Hadley, Marti Pellow, Sacha Distel, Darius Danesh, John Barrowman, Henry Goodman and fellow American screen star David Hasselhoff in the London production. The current revival of Chicago opened at the Cambridge Theatre (where the musical’s original London production ran for 603 performances from April 1979) on 28 April 2006, after eight-and-a-half years at the Adelphi Theatre. It won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production as well as the 1998 Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical.
May 22, 200718 yr Author I believe maxwell caulfield is married to Juliet mills, Hayleys sister. Well he wont have to worry about the accent will he.
May 22, 200718 yr Thanks, Preston. I didn't know John Barrowman had played Billy. I'll have to take another look through my brochure. I probably didn't notice because despite his success in the West End, I only became familiar with JB's face when they did that show about musicals quite a while before HDYSAPLM. I must also dig out my Man Who Knew Too Much video. Edited May 22, 200718 yr by Baytree
May 23, 200718 yr That JB gets on my nerves a tad, he is on TV all the time lately with that huge toothy grin and that laugh! I cant really imagine him as Billy. he seems to do a lot of Westend Theatre, Miss Sygone? was the first one I remember him doing years ago
May 23, 200718 yr Author He was in the first dancing on ice and the first theatre type programme they put out with ruthie henshall where they just stood and wore normal clothes, no costumes. I think the same as PIP but he is popular on another forum!!!
May 23, 200718 yr I can't say I've ever been bowled over with JB's singing but then I've only heard him on TV and he couldn't really let loose there, I suppose. I've never really thought anything about him, just a tiny bit irksome.......... until he was on Johnathon Ross with Andrew LLoyd Webber. He was like a giggling, smutty little schoolboy. Personally, it was very uncomfortable watching him. In fact, I wondered if he was a bit tiddly.
