Number of stations monitored by Nielsen for Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart:

R&B: 160 stations (73 stations are Adult R&B)

Mainstream Top 40: 129

Country: 127

Latin: 101 (includes all subformats)

Adult Contemporary: 97

Adult Top 40: 80

Modern Rock: 71

Rhythmic Top 40: 69

Dance: 7

That's 841 stations, the rest 229 are from various other genres (Album Rock, etc.)

I think they should all be even -_-

Right, I mean the Hot 100 should be -- well it should be 100% sales -- just the Rhythmic/Top 40 stations or an equal combination of other genres. It is no wonder that random hip/hop songs that no one has heard of chart ridiculously high. (I'm sorry but I listen to radio all the time and I've never heard this ShAwty Buy You a Drink or whatever the fukk that is)

I had a rental car for a couple days last week and was forced to listen to the radio. the top 40 station in my city played that T-Pain song every hour or every other hour it seemed.

UGH T-PAIN IS A DISGRACE TO AMERICA

I think its stupid how airplay counts at all.

If UK had airplay counted we'd get the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, Scissor Sisters, Pink and Orson constantly in the charts :manson:

I'd still rather have that than all the hip hop that fills up the US charts though.

Also, those acts do tend to have very long chart runs over here anyway. But I definitely don't think airplay should ever be included on the UK charts. I think it's stupid the US includes it. Airplay probably does have an influence over here as to how long a song remains on the chart, but it should be on what people want to buy and not what radio stations constantly play.

I don't mind some of those artists

But they overplayed Pink - Who Knew and Kelly Clarkson - BTHE so much that I hate both now

Well that just goes to show how idiotic it is to have airplay influence the charts. That's like saying in your market, T Pain is incredibly popular and in mine, he's not. In reality it's somewhere in between.

The song is selling really well with downloads so I really shouldn't have singled that out. Still, there are a lot of hip-hop/R&B songs that chart higher than they deserve because far more R&B stations are used to determine airplay and thus the charts.
