THE younger brother of Pop Idol star Darius Danesh will tonight make his own mark in showbiz - with a starring role in Glasgow.

Aria, 23, grew up in Bearsden with Darius, who is now 26 and based in Los Angeles after switching from pop to musical theatre.

The younger sibling turned his back on a career in medicine to make the stage dream a reality - and tonight will appear in Leo Tolstoy's epic love tale Anna Karenina.

"I had thought long and hard about a career in acting, but what prompted me to give up my medical studies was my father being diagnosed with cancer," said Aria. "That really made me appreciate you only get one shot at life and I decided to leave medicine."

advertisementAria's parents, who are doctors, backed his decision to tread the boards.

"My dad's words were follow your passion'."

So Aria signed up for acting lessons at Strathclyde University and loves his new world.

"Appearing in Anna Karenina is fantastic. I am looking forward to it."

He plays the handsome Vronsky and Russian noblewoman Anna (played by Sarah O'Toole), who is married, falls in love with him.

Meanwhile, Darius will be in Scotland next month when he appears in Guys And Dolls in Edinburgh.

Aria said: "Darius and I talk on the phone a lot and he has been hugely supportive of me going into the business."

Anna Karenina is at the Ramshorn Theatre in Ingram Street, tonight until June 2.

Thanks Sooz. Thats a surprise, thought he had gone into pr in london.
I think it's the second play he's been in on this course. It explains why the new 'job' didn't start 'til October.
