Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" camps at the top of the Australian Singles

Charts for a sixth non-consecutive week, now equaling her six week run from

August 2002 when "Complicated" ran for six straight weeks. That first No.1

single only fell off the top of the charts as it was deleted from sale the last

week of it's top-run, and thus rapidly fell out of the charts after that. At the

moment "Girlfriend" has no signs of either being deleted or slowing down,

although it is no longer the No.1 download single, that falls to this weeks song

that climbs to No.2, Fergie's "Glamorous", which now becomes her highest placed

single.

Two songs become the biggest climbing song, both up 6 places, and the first

of those is at No.4, "20 Good Reasons" by the local talent of Thirsty Merc, who

this week start a national tour in support of their latest album "Slideshows"

(No.13). The other six-climber is at No.19, in the form of Camille Jones

collaboration with Fedde le Grand, "The Creeps". And lastly mention should go to

TV Rock's "The Others" which after ten weeks on the charts between 14 and 19,

rebounds back up the charts to No.12 this week, maybe heading for the Top 10

next week.

Only one major debut this week, and it's a former U.S. No.1 single from

Washington Heights, New York native Mims, "This is Why I'm Hot". Shawn Mims lost

both his parents by the time he was 13, shortly before his mother bought him a

set of DJ equipment, which he excelled on, and after dropping out of high school

pursued a musical career, and for his 26th birthday (March) he managed to crack

the top of the U.S. charts with this track.

Linkin Park may have had two No.2 albums in the past, but this week they get

their first No.1 album in Australia in the form of "Minutes to Midnight". It's

the 549th No.1 Album in Australia (so we'll hit 550 for the next one), and the

first by an American Group since The Fray hit the top of the album charts back

in March. It's also the 196th album by an American Performer, the 116th No.1

Album by an American Group, and Linkin Park become the 54th American Group to

hit the top spot, whilst also being the 262nd Group to hit the top.

It's the second No.1 album to have the word 'Midnight' in it's title, the

other being the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "One Hot Minute" (Sept 1995), and it's

the first 'Midnight' titled album to reach the top, although Midnight Oil have

hit the top four times, but that wasn't the name of any of the chart-toppers. 16

albums have had 'to' in their title, the last of which was the aforementioned

album by The Fray, "How to Save a Life".

This week back in 2005 (May 23rd) The Used had two albums in the Top 50 at

the same time, both hitting their peak, "In Love and Death" (No.32) and "The

Used" (No.41), now this week two years later they score their highest placed and

first Top 5 album, as "Lies for the Liars" debuts at No.5 this week.

The first Maroon 5 album "Songs About Jane" debuted on the charts the second

week of March in 2004 at No.47, and eventually rose to the top of the charts for

a single week in mid-October of 2004. As they had a proven track record, this

week fans have gone out and bought their new album which debuts at No.6. "It

Won't Be Soon Before Long" has already spawned the single "Makes Me Wonder"

(No.7 this week), which returns to the top of the U.S. Charts this week.

Wilco return to the album charts this week at No.23 with the album "Sky Blue

Sky", their first studio album since 2004's "A Ghost is Born", and their first

Top 50 charting album since 2002's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot".
