Posted May 27, 200718 yr Laws allowing problem families to be thrown out of their own homes will be in force within weeks in a fresh blitz on anti-social behaviour. Leaked documents show that ministers are preparing to make the crackdown the centrepiece of Tony Blair's legacy as he prepares to depart from Downing Street. It will be enshrined in a new Criminal Justice Bill. The move will be fully backed by Gordon Brown, who will challenge David Cameron to back the controversial measure or be branded "soft on crime". A letter to Mr Blair from John Reid, the Home Secretary, marked "restricted" and dated May 18, claims that proposals to arm police and councils with the ability to evict badly behaving households - people who own their own homes as well as tenants - for around six months has won "considerable support". Families attempting to return home while an order was in force would be liable to a jail term. The plan, which was put out to consultation by ministers, won strong support from police forces, local authorities and housing groups. However, the laws will bring ministers into conflict with a range of other organisations. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children warned: "We are clear that the experience of being made homeless will be extremely traumatic for young people and is likely to dramatically increase the risks they face." However, David Davis, the shadow home secretary, said: "This is a policy for which both the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary will be here for the headlines and gone for the consequences. Whilst, of course, it may be sensible to have stronger powers to deal with problem families, we need to know exactly how the Government intends to deal with the outcome of these policies. "The public will not unreasonably be a little sceptical that Tony Blair, John Reid and Ruth Kelly can seek to solve in four weeks problems that they themselves have created in the previous 10 years."

May 27, 200718 yr i support it.... isnt it already here? im sure troublesome householders can be evicted from their council homes... lock the scum up... throw away the key...    Again, love the thinking mate. But why lock them up, let's have a bit of fun here.... I would happily have every single chav, NED and other disruptive tw@t carted off to some "Lost"-style island somewhere... Give them all a mud-hut each a few spears so they can go out and hunt their food (or better yet, kill each other... ). In fact, we can make a reality TV show out of it... "I'm An ASBO Chav, Get Me Out Of Here".....
