Jennifer Lopez is about to become a scheming, alcoholic adulteress  once she passes through the gates of Southfork, that is. The singer/actress has signed on to play Sue Ellen opposite John Travolta's J.R. Ewing for the big-screen adaptation of the television show "Dallas."

Director Gurinder Chadha announced the news Friday (April 21), confirming reports swirling for months that both Lopez and Travolta were in negotiations for the parts with then-director Robert Luketic. Luketic parted ways with 20th Century Fox and New Regency earlier this month because he wasn't happy with casting (other parts include Luke Wilson as Bobby and Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie). Who will play Lucy Ewing remains a cliffhanger. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson all are contenders.

"That would be an honor for me," Simpson told MTV News recently. "I'm a Texas girl, so you can't go wrong there."

"Dallas" marks a return to big-studio fare for Lopez, since she recently wrapped two independent films, the Hector Lavoe biopic "El Cantante," in which she plays the wife of husband Marc Anthony's Lavoe, and the Gregory Nava-directed "Bordertown" (see "Coming From Jennifer Lopez: Big Projects For The Big And Small Screens").

"Dallas" started airing in 1978 on CBS but won its biggest audience in 1980, when 83 million viewers tuned in to find out who shot J.R., a role originated by Larry Hagman. Sue Ellen's role, meanwhile, was originated by Linda Gray. Series creator David Jacobs is also one of the film's producers. Shooting isn't scheduled to start until October, after Travolta wraps up his starring role in the big-screen remake of Broadway's "Hairspray."

Chadha, best known for 2004's "Bend It Like Beckham," is adapting another TV hit, the sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie." "Dallas" is slated for a late-2007 release.

Album:

Jennifer Lopez is putting the finishing touches on her upcoming Spanish-language album, Como Ama Una Mujer (which translates to How a Woman Loves), but she's already brainstorming her next project, she revealed to Harper's Bazaar in the magazine's May cover story.

The singer said her follow-up will be a ska-tinged pop album and spoke highly of former ska-pop queen Gwen Stefani. "Women who've started their own trends, who don't care what other people are thinking ... I admire Gwen Stefani's style and Madonna's. Those two have blazed their own trails." Meanwhile, Lopez has revised the dates for her upcoming international tour. She's nixed shows in Mumbai, India, and Istanbul, Turkey, and has added one in Sofia, Bulgaria, on May 2.

she couldnt pull it off, she will flop with her music when its solo stuff because she has way to many haters. And when i say flop i mean not hardly as succesful like she was, and you know why she has haters -_-

she has way to many haters at the moment, she needs to pretend that shes giving up fur or something

Control Myself with LL Cool J

I agree, although her song with LLCJ has done very well. I think she'll have to make some life changes before a lot of people go back to her, but then again, she has made a permanent scar on her career imo -_-

LC is doing quite well isnt it?

Yep it climbed all the way from outside the Hot 100 to #4 which is a MASSIVE climb, I have been watching their chart for a year or 2 now and have never seen such a huge climb.

its doing well because LLCJ is really popular in america, jlo may be helping a little but not much.

In my opinion I don't think Control Myself could have made such a phenomenal rise, based on LL Cool J's success alone, one of the reasons it has rebounded so quickly is because Jennifer is attached to it, whether you like her or not, it's a big reason.
im not saying she isnt a big icon, but its obvious that LLC's fans and JLOS fans combined are going to get big, if it didnt go top 40 atleast something is wrong, but u know its based on downloads i think MATM would have gone top ten if the charts were like this in 2003

Exactly it only charted at #93 on the Hot 100 and then it was available for digital download, and then re-entered at #4.

britneys US record would be Awesome if it were like that 2000 - 2005!

the only song britney has released during this rule was do somethin and it got to 100 and it wasnt even released to radio video or anything so what does that tell you!
