Posted May 28, 200718 yr Formed by half of the Housemartins, they reached #2 with their first song in 89, Song for whoever- a great pop song. Using different female vocalists they had hits with A little time, You keep it all in, One last love song and Rotterdam. Still on the go today, but not as successful as the early 90’s.
May 29, 200718 yr The only genuinely good song they did was 'Old Red Eyes is Back' which caused a mere whimper on the charts. By the time they were at their most popular - Rotterdam, Perfect 10, Don't Marry Her etc. they were at their worst. The second female singer was easier on the eye than the first but not as good.
May 30, 200718 yr They wrote some cracking tunes. A Little Time and Old Red Eyes but I also love the likes of 36D, My Book and Let Love Speak Up Itself. Not sure if any of those last ones were released as singles tho
May 30, 200718 yr Did like The Housemartins but thought Beautiful South were too far up their own collective arse. Although I did see an interview with Paul Heaton on TV recently and he seemed to be a sound bloke. Edited May 30, 200718 yr by grebo69

I remember My Book followed up 'A Little Time' at the end of 1990 and failed to hit the top 40. I was amazed!
