Coldplay's 'experimental' new album

PA Entertainment

It seems Coldplay's fourth album will have a rocky edge

Coldplay are reportedly heading in a new direction with their fourth album - with a rocky edge to their music.

It seems frontman Chris Martin was so excited by their new sound that he got Embrace pal Danny McNamara to listen in.

The musician, who penned the official World Cup 2006 anthem, told the Daily Star: "Chris gave me a sneak listen to some of the new tracks and they blew me away.

"They are very experimental and much more out-there than what you would expect - they are breathtaking.

"There are lots of big fat guitar riffs but soulful, emotional moments too. Chris played me a track which was just him and a piano and I just thought, 'Wow'.

"They haven't planned any dates for releasing it yet. You can't put a deadline on that kinda stuff."

He continued: "Whatever your expectations of Coldplay music, throw them out the window."

Does this news wet your appetite or disappoint you?

Coldplay could be releasing their new album this year after all, according to Amazon.com.

The band have previously said their fourth long-player will not surface until 2008, but the leading online retailer now lists it for a 3 September release.

Maybe they know something we - or indeed the band - don't?

Coldplay have been working on the follow up to 2005's X&Y with legendary producer Brian Eno.

:o September?!/!

Can't wait

Well I for one welcome some experimenting, that's exactly what they need to do, so far their albums have'nt sounded extremly different imo, so it will be great to see. More songs like 'Talk' would be good, and considering the legendary Brian Eno is producing then it will be great. He produced my three favourite U2 albums, (Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree and ATYCLB) as well as the experimental and excellent 'Zooropa'. He's certainly going to be busy as he's also producing U2's new album as well, so the two biggest bands in the world. He's bound to make alot of money :D
As long as 'experimental' doesn't mean we'll end up hearing Chris Martin attempt a 'Rudebox' (single, not album :P) style comeback, I can't wait ^_^

Coldplay get disciplined

teletext.co.uk

Coldplay are "more disciplined" making their fourth album.

A studio diary by the band's friend Prospekt said producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs have "introduced a sense of discipline that has never existed in previous album sessions. I've never seen the band so willing to be led."

The entry at coldplay.com added: "Chris's lyrics are much more abstract and visual. The music is more oblique."

I'm pretty excited about this album :kink:

I liked X&Y, so a more experimental album should be fine for me!

ooo cant wait.

Didnt Chris at one point say this album has a song and its the best one hes ever written?

Long way for new Coldplay

teletext.co.uk

Coldplay have recorded 25 songs for their new album.

The band recently had a meeting with producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs to discuss each song.

Band friend Prospekt told coldplay.com: "Very little material got an unreserved thumbs up. Far from feeling dispirited, we all came away a lot more confident. It's better to check where you're going rather than wander around aimlessly."

25 :o

:cheer: i so cant wait :cheer:

Coldplay in recording rut?

PA Entertainment

http://musicnews.virginmedia.com/news/?news_id=23681

Coldplay are struggling to make a decision on which tracks should appear on their new album, it seems.

The news comes from an unknown insider, named Prospekt, on the band's official website, which said: "One aspect of the recording process that I'll never get used to is tension.

The message continued: "If you place six strong-willed men in a small room for 10 months, working 10 to 12 hour days on something they all care about passionately, friction is inevitable."

It said that Brian Eno had drawn up a list of the 25 pieces they have been working on for a meeting for "a ruthless dissection of all the work done so far".

But then "very little material got an unreserved thumbs up from everyone".

However the band, fronted by Chris Martin and currently recording in Spain, were apparently not disheartened.

"We all came out feeling a lot more confident," the message stated, adding that the album is still expected out before Christmas.

Coldplay: 'Our new album has Hispanic theme'

http://www.nme.com/news/coldplay/29902

Chris Martin and co talk about their new songs

Coldplay have revealed that their new album, currently being recorded by the band in Barcelona, has a "Hispanic theme".

Writing on their website blog, the band sent an update from their sessions which have moved from inital recordings in London to Spain.

"The sights, sounds and flavours of Latin America and Spain have definitely been infused on this album. The band visited Argnentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico earlier this year," they explained. "Chris [Martin] then came up with the idea of recording in Spain. The music and lyrics have begun to reflect the strengthening Hispanic theme."

The band went on to explain that despite the Hispanic theme, there wouldn't be any carnival-style instruments on the album.

"No maracas or castanets," they wrote, "but a vibrancy and colourfulness that owes much to the atmosphere of Buenos Aires and Barcelona".

The follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' is expected sometime in 2008.

Sounds interesting and very different :o

Hopefully a spring 2008 release is on the cards, not the back end
