Its such a disgusting piece when there's such a problem with diamonds and the way they're sourced for us Westerners to wear as symbols of our wealth and Hirst just adds to it combining it with "modern art" [ANOTHER symbol of western greed]. I've lost the minimal respect I ever had for him.

June 2, 200718 yr There is no evidence that he got them from Africa Jake, he says they were ethically sourced so am guessing it wasn't Sierra Leone, questions need to be asked where he got them from but as long as they ethically sourced don't see the problem
June 2, 200718 yr Author No its not where he sourced them but the point he COULD be making but seems too ignorant to bother with... Diamonds are a symbol of elitism to me and a symbol of Western greed and power. Surely this sort of thing could be used to highlight what is going on in Sierra Leone but he just hasn't bothered rather rabbiting on about how amazing it looks etc :/
June 2, 200718 yr BUT why?? bits of glass would have looked just as good!!! do you know how many years budget that "thing" is for my school???
June 3, 200718 yr He's a fukkin' pretentious, upper-middle-class tosser of the first order, he really is.... Likes to think of himself as some kind of "Art Terrorist".... Bollocks he is, Banksy has more right to call himself that than this bourgeois scumbag, him and that silly cow Tracey Emin are a disgrace to Modern Art.... Dead cows in formaldahyde, dead sharks, diamond skulls... What does it all actually mean Damien....? Do you actually have a point to make or are you just doing it cos it 'looks cool' and it has shock value enough to give you a bit of PR... I rather suspect the latter... <_< The KLF burning a million quid actually had much more meaning than this rubbish. The money and resources gone into making this thing is really just disgusting, and I don't believe for a minute that he was all that diligent about "ethically sourcing" them...
