June 3, 200718 yr Thanks Pip. What a great review. I didnt realise that the liverpool empire had the largest stage in the country. Great review for Darius.
June 3, 200718 yr Thank You. It is such a large, fun show with loads of great characters. I'm glad Darius did it because without him, I wouldn't have seen it in a theatre. I'm sorry to say I didn't bother when the tour came to Glasgow. Everybody in the cast at the Empire deserves credit. They were all fantastic. Still that problem with a simple name like Danesh though! No wonder Darius dropped it at first. I think it's better he stick with it for acting though. Edited June 3, 200718 yr by Baytree
June 5, 200718 yr Author I add this review purely as to show that Darius is doing a great job as Sky, and that at the end of the day its the audience that knows if they enjoy a show or not. Darius got a great review, and the one that commented about over acting and drunken songs obviously knows nothing about the history of the musical! btw loving the great comments on myspace aobut D's performances, now those are the ones that matter..even so. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml...ixartright.html Edited June 5, 200718 yr by prettyinpink
June 5, 200718 yr I have been waiting for a couple of people who doubted D's abilities to post their reviews on Whatsonstage. M. George has now done so and, although he does not exactly sing D's praises he does admit to D having a fine voice, acceptable acting skills, stage presence, good movement and, above all..........'THE AUDIENCE LOVED HIM'!! :cheer: Julie

June 5, 200718 yr Hi, its under the heading discussion on the opening page with a second heading readers reviews. M George is a regular contributor to WOS and to my mind has followed the track of praising certain artistes who came up through the ranks as it were so in some ways it is no mean praise for him to step out of this and praise Darius. I really cant think of others he is referring to who have played the role with a better range, certainly not Marlon Brando,.However he seems to have entirely forgotten that the other principals are of considerable experience treading the boards in musicals etc. whereas D is not.

June 6, 200718 yr Thanks for these. Given that Darius is the least experienced of the tour cast, has been performing the role for barely one week compared to at least 3 weeks for Shaun and even longer for the others, and that the person doing the review is a real (musical) theatre buff, D's come off very well. I don't get the bit about the range. Does he mean vocal range? There isn't a song in G & D to test D's vocal range and as it was, he had to hold back. Maybe this guy wanted the 'musical' voice, which from Darius would have outpowered his partner in the duets. I've heard snippets of most of the others who've done this Michael Grandage production and also Ian Charleson's Sky at the National Theatre and none of them made me sit up and take notice. He acknowledges that Darius and/or his performance appealed to the audience........... that's excellent, because even on a major meet-up I'd estimate there aren't any more than 15 - 20 staunch Darius fans there.
June 6, 200718 yr Author which is great, as I love it when people who arent staunch fans praise him - I am always told by hubby that D can do no wrong in my eyes..even though I do feel I can be unbiased and can tell if he does something not quite to my liking, or misses a note LOL but as fans you always feel your views are biased and dont mean anything.
June 6, 200718 yr Shaun is experienced in musicals. He starred as the dj in saturday night fever in the westend and on tour. Also starred in the rocky horror show and nine years in eastenders so he is very much an allrounder.
