Posted June 4, 200718 yr Well gang, It's jake here, just on the bus back to London after a pretty fun Radio one Big Weekend show. The show iteslf was a little tepid and the lights bright, but it seemed to warm up after a few songs and hopefully a good time was had by all. I saw LCD Soundsystem from the crowd, doing my best to make a Michael- Jackson-like disguise that didn't seem to work too well. LCD were amazing, I think their set-up is great and some of James Murphey's songs make me jealous. Other things happening, we played Parky and Transmission which was rad. Hung out with miss Beth Ditto and Yoko Ono at Transmission and Ana was in serious heaven. We spent the afternoon at Hotel Pelirocco in Brighton for the Transmission shoot. I slept in a round bed with a mirror above me AND a stripper pole in the room, and took a bath in a gigantic tub that smelled like poo-poo (which I didn't notice until it was too late.) BD and I are really excited about the Ivor Novello songwriting awards this week. We're nominated for two with Elton for Dancin'. We're also getting ready to go the Life Ball in Vienna, a gigantic AIDS fundraiser, where we will hang out with many fun NYC freaks and pals. Saw 28 weeks later. Pretty f***ing sick. Didn't like the leads that much though. Loved Grindhouse, which BD and I both saw in the states. It's major. Ana, BD, and I also went and saw Klaxons play at the Shepards Bush Empire the other night. It was really outrageous. The floor looked like a giant cesspool of hormonal and drunk folks with glo sticks. Well done them. I love the new Feist record. The new Tori record is pretty great. Simian Mobile Disco is the bee's knees. Also love Arcade Fire, Good the Bad and the Queen, Mendoza Line, The Sly and the Family Stone re-issues, Rufus Wainright, Glass Candy, the new Paul McCartney, and so on. . . Can someone tell Bjork to give us more than ONE pop song on her new album. . . bless her. Saw her at Radio City a couple weeks ago and it was really good. . .throw us a bone though. Earth Intruders IS an amazing song however. We tried covering it for the B-side of Kiss You Off. We rehearsed and rehearsed and recorded it at a sound check in Madrid. We took it back in the studio and tried to make tails of it, and decided that it just didn't sound good at all and we weren't going to subject you lovely people to our terrible version. So instead we dug up a weird demo called Bad $h!t from early Ta-dah sessions. It's a silly, simple tune. Picking it up and listening to it two years later, the verses definately have a Lou Reed vibe to them. We know there's been lots of complaints about the singles not having real b-sides, but we really f***ed ourselves over by putting the bonus disc on the deluxe Ta-dah. Well, folks, that's just how it goes. I am personally really excited to make more music. Ready to get back at it. Anyway. Tons of love to you all. We miss you.
