Posted June 7, 200718 yr Billboard is launching a new singles chart known as the Canadian Hot 100 today measuring the top songs in Canada. The chart will be a compilation of the Canada Digital Songs chart, which ranks the top-selling downloads in Canada as measured by Nielsen SoundScan, and the Canada All-Format Airplay chart, ranking the songs most played on Canadian radio as measured by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, based on results from more than 100 stations representing rock, country, adult contemporary and Top 40 genres. "The new Billboard Canadian Hot 100 will serve as the definitive measure of Canada's most popular songs, continuing our magazine's longstanding tradition of using the most comprehensive resources available to provide the world's most authoritative music charts," Geoff Mayfield, director of charts at Billboard, said in a release announcing the new chart. The Canadian Hot 100 will be included in Billboard and on the All Official Charts website (instead Nielsen's physical singles chart). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All Official Charts® Website Singles - Digital - Airplay - Albums Add To Your Favourites Now! June 7, 200718 yr Hopefully this should be more credible than the current joke of a singles chart Canada has, where 42 sales are enough to nip the number one spot :(
June 7, 200718 yr Author First #1 on the Canadian Hot 100 as reported by Billboard: Rihanna's "Umbrella". The No. 1 on digital and only No. 15 on airplay.

June 8, 200718 yr Yes. Sales in Canada are about the same as sales in the Isle of Man. I assume you mean *physical* sales - but surely there must be a significant number of download ones? IMO any chart which incorporates airplay is a bad idea. Despote the claims, it doesn't actually represent the popularity of tracks, just that of the record companies who have most 'influence' in getting their artists played.

I presume it is just physicals but they must be the only country in the world where Elton John can be number one for 46 weeks and still be in the top 20 3 years after release!
