klaxon's new single might be worth getting as they are gonna cover the Frankie Valli classic Northern Soul Floorstomper called The Night (marc almond's versh below)

and not only this Frankie Valli might be back in the charts with Beggin' which is being tipped as a cool future dance hit.

so is there any other great Northern Soul Floorstompers that you can spin on your head too? and would make Stuart Macconie think 'That's Good Stuff There'!!!!

farina and gaudio composed timebox's 'beggin' ......... dunno if they are 4 season writers... anyone?

Dont know but if the Gaudio is Bob Gaudio then he will be the 4 seasons person as wiki explains:

The Four Seasons, (known off and on since 1970 as Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons), was an American pop group, distinct from many similar groups of the early to mid-1960s in its traditional Italian-American sound. It also had a sound somewhat reminiscent of doo wop, but it was not known as a doo wop quartet. By the mid 1960s it became an internationally famous rock and roll group.

In 1961, the group known as The Four Lovers evolved into The Four Seasons, with Frankie Valli as the lead singer, Bob Gaudio (formerly of The Royal Teens) on keyboards and tenor vocals, Tommy DeVito on lead guitar and baritone vocals and Nick Massi on bass guitar and bass vocals (Massi was replaced in 1964 by Charles Calello, who was in turn replaced in 1965 by Joe Long on bass guitar and bass vocals).

The official name of the organization is the Four Seasons Partnership, formed by Gaudio and Valli after a failed audition in 1961. While singers, producers, and musicians have come and gone, Gaudio and Valli remain the group's constant (with each owning fifty percent of the act and its assets, including virtually all of its recording catalog).[1][2]

The Four Seasons (group members 1961–1965) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.

apart from the night and tainted love  (best versh of this song)

'Beggin', by Franki Valli & The Four Seasons, came out in the USA

in February 1967, & it reached Number 16 in the Hot 100.

So, the Timebox version, in 1968, (UK), was a Cover of a Four Seasons Hit.

Bob Gaudio & Peggy Farina wrote it. Gaudio wrote many of the Four

Seasons biggest Hits - with Bob Crewe.

'The Night', was a Single that the Four Seasons released whilst on

Tamla Motown. Promotional copies were distributed in the USA, in 1971,

but the Single was not released there. By 1975, it was a Northern Soul

favourite in the UK, & it reached Number 7 here, that Year.

My personal favourite Northern Soul Classics are:,

1) I'm On My Way - Dean Parrish (Has an Intro a bit like 'Satisfaction'

- The Rolling Stones Hit. He has a fantastic voice).

2) I'm Gonna Run Away From You - Tammi Lynn

3) What - Judy Street (Covered by Soft Cell)

4) Time Will Pass You By - Tobi Legend

5) Tainted Love - Gloria Jones (Covered by Soft Cell)

6) Better Use Your Head - Little Anthony & The Imperials

(Kylie Minogue had a UK No.1 wth one of their Songs).

7) You're Ready Now - Franki Valli

8) The Night - Franki Valli & The Four Seasons

cool will try and find some of those (obv dl and on cd not going like orig northern soul/rare groove dudes for old vinyls. however that would have been cool tho)

Hello,

With regards to the Dean Parrish Single, it was

a Number 38 UK Hit in 1975 - but, it is obviously

a 1960's Recording, as you can tell when you hear it.

It has all sorts going on in it, both vocally & musically,

& if it were used in a UK TV Advert, it would end up as

a Number 1 Hit.

It is one of my favourite Singles ever, & it makes me

sick that Westlife can easily have Hits, with bland rubbish,

when fantastic Singles like, 'I'm On My Way', did not make

the Top 30. I'd like to see Westlife try to sing it - they have

not got Dean Parrish's vocal range!

The Tami Lynn Single was a 1960's recording too. (I put 2 'm's

in her name by mistake). It was a Top 40 Hit twice - 4 in 1971,

& 36 in 1975.

All of the Singles I listed should have been Top 3 UK Hits.

It is very sad that they were not.

are these all on one handy cd?

Hello everyone,

Some good songs nominated here. Others I love include

Do I love you-Frank Wilson

7 days too long-Chuck Woods

Here are the pieces of my broken heart-Gladys Knight

Hello,

It is hard to find one Northern Soul CD with ALL of

the 8 Songs that I nominated, or all of those that Hullboy

nominated, on it.

At Amazon.uk even a Triple Northern Soul Set did not

have them all on it.

There are also several fantastic - and I mean fantastic

- Northern Soul type Songs, on 2 CD's of Phil Spectre

sound-a-like Productions, that I bought in 2006.

The Tracks in question, are truly huge Productions,

with amazing Vocals. A duo of USA Twins, (Male),

actually have 2 versions of the same Song on them!

They simply had 2 sets of lyrics, & sang them over the

same Backing Track! Both versions are outstanding.

I had never heard many of the Songs before,

& I was playing the 2 CD's last night. The Tracks that

sound like Northern Soul material, are unbelievable.

If anyone wants, (100 % free), to hear the Songs,

just send me your Address - via a Message.

I will add in the Northern Soul Tracks mentioned, too.

Yes, I prefer the Timebox version too.

Don't see the point in this Frankie Valli remix at all!
