Posted June 8, 200718 yr No Doubt are going into the studio next month to work on their first new album in six years – no matter that Gwen Stefani is on tour through the fall. “The three of us are going to lay down some songs with music only,” drummer Adrian Young says. “When she gets done with the tour we’ll all be there to do it. We’ve probably got four albums worth of ideas demoed.” Young describes the new songs as “unlike anything else we ever made – they’re all over the place stylistically.” According to Young, Stefani just got the first batch of first songs and he’s waiting to hear her input. The group has been inactive since a 2004 co-headlining tour with Blink-182. “We’ve been together since 1987 and we never took a break until three summers ago,” Young says. “Now the break’s been pretty long, so I think we’re not burning anymore. It’s kind of nice to be hungry again.” Stefani has had a very active break – releasing two monster solo albums and touring the world twice – but Young says she’s ready to fall back into No Doubt as soon as the tour is done. “Gwen’s a workaholic,” he says. “She likes to constantly be working.” Young suspects the new record will come out sometime in 2008. -- Rolling Stone Tony is also on tour with Gwen now writing new tracks... June 8, 200718 yr Author No Doubt have plenty of songs ready for their next album, they're just missing one thing: Gwen Stefani. When their frontwoman hit the snooze button on the band's would-be sixth LP last year to prolong her solo career, the rest of No Doubt continued to amass music for their long-awaited follow-up to 2001's Rock Steady. Guitarist Tom Dumont said plans are in motion for the project, though he warns that fans shouldn't expect to see the finished work until at least the Fall of 2008. "Tony, Adrian and I have been busy preparing material for the album since this time last year," he wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. "So we have a lot of instrumentals looking for words." Dumont wouldn't reveal many details about their stylistic approach thus far, saying only, "We've written so much stuff that covers so much ground that it's hard to say what sounds will win out in the end." The guitarist denied recent gossip that bassist Tony Kanal had joined Stefani on tour to work on new material but said he and Kanal may meet up with her on the road later. Stefani's tour in support of The Sweet Escape has dates scheduled through October 20 in the Czech Republic. "Gwen has a busy world tour all year, so obviously most of our writing this year would happen either separately or during a few off days here and there," Dumont said. Stefani's original plan was to do one side project that she initially hesitated to term a solo album. That turned out to be 2004's massively successful Love, Angel, Music, Baby. Following a tour and the birth of her first child, Kingston, with Gavin Rossdale, Stefani released The Sweet Escape in December. "This break has been good for everyone," Dumont said. "We had been together as a band nonstop for so long that it was healthy for us to all stand on our own two feet, so to speak. In the past four years, I bought a house, got married and made a baby, so pretty much grew up and returned to normal life outside of the rock stardom which dominated my 20s." Dumont, Kanal and drummer Adrian Young also kept busy with various musical endeavors. Dumont collaborated with his friend Ted Matson on an instrumental project called Invincible Overlord and produced two albums for singer Matt Costa, the second of which is due this fall. "Matt is pretty unique in that he grew up in Huntington Beach in the skateboarding scene there, but is primarily consumed with music from the '60s and before," Dumont said. "He gets excited by British artists like the Kinks and Donovan, but has an equal love for early American folk and blues, from the Carter Family to Buddy Holly." Kanal lent Stefani a hand on both of her solo albums and produced songs for Hawaiian rockers Pepper and reggae singer Elan. Meanwhile, Young played drums on Bow Wow Wow's 2004 tour and appeared on albums by Costa and Unwritten Law. -- I find that slightly odd considering both Gwen and Tony have said they have been together writing.
June 8, 200718 yr Author No Doubt have revealed that they will return to the studio next week to record their first studio album in six years, despite the fact that their lead singer Gwen Stefani will not be able to join them. Stefani is currently touring her latest solo album 'The Sweet Escape' in North America, but the remaining members of the band have revealed this won't stop them heading into the studio. Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, drummer Adrian Young explained: "The three of us are going to lay down some songs with music only. When she gets done with the tour we'll all be there to do it. We've probably got four albums worth of ideas demoed." He furthered that the new material will be "unlike anything else we've ever made." The record is expected to be ready for release in 2008. -- NME.

June 10, 200718 yr This is my most anticipated comeback album ever after Britney's. I bet it will just blow people away...I hope the stuff is similar to "It's My Life" and the sound of Gwen's "Wonderful Life" & "Early Winter" ....amazing
June 10, 200718 yr ^Me too! I want an electronic album with songs like Its My Life and Wonderful Life. I think Wonderful Life best previewed the direction that it would be great for No Doubt to take, and Gwen has often said its one of her faves from the album. A hint? :P
June 11, 200718 yr I was listening to the radio this morning, and apparently it hasn't been confirmed that Gwen Stefani and No Doubt are back in the studio working on their next album, but it has been said that the guys already have a ton of songs ready for a new album for whenever Gwen Stefani is ready to come back to No Doubt. :)
June 11, 200718 yr Thats pretty much what the news says :P That the guys have put together some demos and Gwen will join them as soon as the tour is over. Radio are making it sound like she'll just be popping in to give vocals when she can be arsed -_-
June 12, 200718 yr Author I do not want electronic/pop/dancehall anything. :( I really want a rock/ska/new-rave type album. I think it would be too safe to go down that route, Gwen NEEDS to rock out again and show that after all this time, she is still that same No Doubt girl.
