They were on a talkshow over here preaching a load of $h!t saying how 9/11 was a blessing and how they were proud to protest at the funerals for soldiers who fought in Iraq. Very strange family.
June 8, 200718 yr i saw louis theroux doc about them a few months ago... also they were on jeremy kyle show yesterday... they are nothing short of a bunch of very narrow minded idiots who are taking afew verses out of the bible literally. their actions are totally repugnant, picketing funerals, homophobic hatred, brainwashing their young, praising 9/11 and those school massacres as god avenging 'fag allowers'... they are known as americas most hated family, tbh i think they are the WORLDS most hated family.

June 8, 200718 yr Meh... I was upset back a couple years ago when I thought the Westboro Baptist Church was an actual church. In reality, it’s just a large family holed up in literally a compound in Kansas. By the way, every Baptist denomination in America has denied any legitimacy to calling themselves a “Baptist” church and legal action is being threatened. They weren’t well known except for their web site and occasional pickets on a street in Topeka Kansas. That is, until they started picketing the funerals of Iraq soldiers. Since then they’ve stepped it up to picketing about every major event or funeral. Thought Jerry Falwell was about the most deranged, right-wing evangelical? The Phelps even picketed his funeral. Frankly it’s just a bunch of crazed maniacs and they don’t deserve the attention they get.

There have been a ton of legal issues surrounding them. I guess there's only been one arrest during a protest because one of the kids was tearing up an American flag which is a misdomeaner crime in Nebraska. However because of them, many states have passed laws to keep protests more than a certain distance from funerals. They are protected by law to say anything they want but the courts would love to nail them. One time they were picketing on a street and some woman drove over the curb and ran over one of them! She was found not guilty due to "temporary insanity" which is sort of a ridiculous case. But you can see that the courts are going to be biased against these psychos.
