Posted June 9, 200718 yr There has been recent talk about moving the release date of singles from a monday to a friday. Personally, I don't think this will make a great deal of difference in respect of single sales. So what do you think would help the single? I've got a few suggestions. -Make all maxi CD singles at a maximum price of £1.99 and 2 track single £1.29 maximum -Consider re-releasing older singles from the 80s that are no available on CD format -there is currently a lack of really good songs in the charts in my opinion and there is a need to establish some credible new acts but not via x factor etc.
June 9, 200718 yr I think more music promotion on TV would be a big help, that's a simple answer imo. Look at the influence adverts and theme tunes are having on the charts, imagine if we had a really big show like TOTP again - sales for those who performed on it would be massive.

June 9, 200718 yr The death* of Simon Cowell & Louis Walsh (* Not literally - I don't hate them that much :D) & Reality TV talent shows releasing ghastly singles Whitney/Westlife cloned singles at Xmas killing the excitement of the battle for the most important chart of the year. Music (to quote Stephen Patrick Morrissey in 1986) "That Says Something To Me and To My Life" for teenagers today. Radio not have a single 4-6 weeks before the physical or download single is available for release like currently. Bring back TOTP except have it to officially reveal the midweek charts as a precursor to the actual chart countdown on a Sunday. Therefore making it exciting and relevant to it's core audience and not have it on at a time that it is up against a TV Soap Opera. Radio 1 to actually employ DJ's during the daytime who are passionate & love new music instead of using it as a stepping stone to self-promotion and further a career in TV & Light Entertainment. A new teen rebellion dynamic musical movement that makes us 30 somethings go WTF is that. (Forget EMO as that is just a ghastly update of 1980s Hair Metal meets Marilyn Manson/Smashing Pumpkins/Alice Cooper/Kiss imagery).
June 9, 200718 yr Suff Top Of The Pops, that was past it's sell by date. Bring back CD:UK With Cat Deely and And & Dec, CD:UK deffinatly attracted a more younger/teenage audience
June 9, 200718 yr I think the demise of Pop shows like TOTP, CD:UK has made a huge hole for promoting of new music, people are more in favour of wall to wall music stations for me that's c**p its not really promoting anything. I would love to see a live show back on TV.
June 9, 200718 yr Suff Top Of The Pops, that was past it's sell by date. Bring back CD:UK With Cat Deely and And & Dec, CD:UK deffinatly attracted a more younger/teenage audience remember McFly amd Westlife every week  to be honest CD:UK was mainly pop music in the end, you need a new music programme that can have a mixture of everything
June 9, 200718 yr Suff Top Of The Pops, that was past it's sell by date. Yes, just like how Dr Who was past its sell by date, and hasn't the revival of the show & format been a huge critical flop & ratings disaster. TOTP is a worldwide brand. I remember listening to the chart countdowns within the last year and hearing My Chemical Romance & The Kaiser Chiefs expressing their disappointment that they can't perform on this legendary flagship show, because it has a worldwide brand unlike CD:UK, etc.
June 9, 200718 yr Personally, I would do many things. * Bring back a good Music TV show aimed at all ages. Not just one that has McFly on every other week. It should be an hour long with dedicated presenters that don't fill it with pointless, irrelevant $h!t and should just feature back to back LIVE performances as well as the latest music exclusives. *Singles should be changed to £1. If they want to put BSides and the video on them then let them but tbh why would anybody but a diehard fan buy a single for £2 when you can download the track for 79p or find it on the album for about £6 or £7 pound more and get 10 other odd tracks in the bargain? *OVERWHORAGE. Radio One need a new playlist! They need to extend it to include more songs to stop them playing the same ones over and over again. I actually think the video should be launched on the same day the song is sent to radio stations and the track is added to iTunes, much bigger impact, much larger sales. *Sack JK + Joel from the chartshow.
June 10, 200718 yr Bring back some music programs on TV. There is just nowhere left now to promote new music.
June 10, 200718 yr More proper music shows in the vein of TOTP or CD:UK, and less cookery shows. Being able to buy a CD single without having to catch three buses and trek through the shop to get to the very back.
June 10, 200718 yr You need a new music programme that can have a mixture of everything Therell never be one because ultimately no audience likes both pop and metal or whatever - thats why Popworld is nearly entirely pop and indie, and the Album Chart Show is nearly entirely rock and indie. This is the simple answer: *Schedule The Album Chart Show earlier - maybe 10.30pm. Gone midnight is ridiculous! *Promote singles on TV. Have adverts for singles as well as albums, and in adverts for albums mention that the single is out NOW or whatever. *Make 2 track CD singles £1.50 and Maxi singles £2.50 or £3
June 10, 200718 yr Well I don't know about anyone else but having no singles at Asda makes it really difficult. Like the person said above I have to travel for 30 minutes to my nearest HMV/Virgin. They should bring back singles in Asda imo.
June 10, 200718 yr I say we email ITV askin for a livew music programme back :kink: I thought channel 5 were bringin CD:UK back at one time

Have adverts for singles as well as albums, and in adverts for albums mention that the single is out NOW or whatever. *Make 2 track CD singles £1.50 and Maxi singles £2.50 or £3 The costs for TV adverts are really high. If singles will be promoted in the TV there will be no way to reduce the prices for CD and Maxi singles because they MUST cover all kind of promotion for that. I think to increase single sales radios (for example Radio 1) should have new playlists with more songs, and Television should have broadcast the charts in some form (TOTP or something like that). So here I agree with Grami.
June 10, 200718 yr ^Hmmm well I guess they could continue at the current cost if some 20 second ads appeared on TV...that would make people go out there and buy.
June 10, 200718 yr -Consider re-releasing older singles from the 80s that are no available on CD format I agree with you here to a point. Only why stop at the 80s and go back to the 60s when there were many classic singles and artists.
June 10, 200718 yr What an awful idea :puke2: that wouldnt increase sales of chart songs either, it'd decrease them as potential Rihanna buyers spot Paul McCartney and buy that instead! So then its lose-lose for everyone except the rich sods from the 60s whove made hundreds of thousands from royalties anyway!
