Will Young Interview

The rain does funny things to a person. Usually it makes them run for cover when they’re dressed inappropriately. At Glastonbury this is something of a common occurrence with shorts, sun hats and wellies being de rigueur this year. A recurring event on this changeable Friday with sun, cloud and rain in heavy rotation is that at Lulu’s, the backstage hospitality bar fills to the brim every time the heavens open - everybody legs it inside. Which makes it quite handy for collaring celebs for on the spot interviews so it’s not all bad. One of these was the unsuspecting Will Young, who graciously sat still for a few moments to give us his thoughts on the Festival so far.

 

How are you feeling?

 

I’ve hit a bit of a wall actually. I got to bed too late and got up too early to see Mr Hudson And The Library – they were good – then we saw The View and now I’m slightly going down a bit. And I’ve only got an inch down my pint of beer and it’s… not going very well.

 

What’s with this weather? What have we done to deserve this?

 

I don’t know. I think we’re in the wrong month. It needs to be moved back in the year to August or something.

 

You’re a bit of a Glastonbury regular aren’t you? We’ve spotted you here before, I’m sure of it.

 

Yeah, this is my fourth time and I’m really pleased because this is the first year I’m managing to stay here for the full five days. I’m in. Locked in.

 

And they’ve nicked your keys.

 

That’s exactly right.

 

When did you arrive?

 

Late last night. We had a bit of a problem getting here from London, well – we got lost.

 

And are you tenting it or are you in a Winnebago?

 

Well I’ve gone for a small Winne this time around.

 

And have you covered it in $h!t yet?

Yeah! (Laughs) I’ve even broken the table.

 

And how did that happen? Tag team wrestling?

 

No, there was just too much stuff on it and it fell apart, so we left.

 

So what are your plans?

 

Going to hang around here for a short while, take a break. Then head on over to the Other stage to see Rufus Wainwright, then maybe Arcade Fire. Then definitely Bjork.

 

So your overall impression of this year so far?

 

I love it here. It’s fantastic, a different world. I saw someone out there earlier dressed as a goose, which was amazing. Carrying it’s own egg as well.

 

What’s your top tip for this year?

 

Rehydrate! That and a mac in a bag.

 

What do you think we’ve got in store for us for the rest of the weekend?

Just seen that on Dev - wonder who was performing - would love to have seen that :dance: Wonder if it was filmed by any chance!!

Keeping everything crossed his impromptu performance was recorded. Guess we'll all be glued to the highlight's show. :dance: Hope they take the hint & invite him next year. :cheer:

He wasn't the only one this time. I caught the end of Jo Whiley's radio show this morning and she was speaking to Mika on the phone and he was lost too. I wonder if they they put up diversions around the country roads.
