Thanks Dot.

Well in the fantasy world of Louis Walsh Shayne is the biggest star with his 3million album sales!

So, he's sold more than Dido now has he? I think someone should have a little word in Louis's ear and tell him to shut up.

The top selling albums of this decade have been announced, with Dido featuring twice.

Her album Life For Rent made fourth place, while No Angel sold just under 3 million copies over the past ten years, narrowly beating James Blunt into second place.

The former army captain managed to make number two, despite recently being voted the fourth most annoying thing ever in a public survey.

David Gray's White Ladder, and the Beatles' Greatest Hits album 1 came third and fifth respectively.

Thanks munchkin, it's an interview about 9 months ago but I'd not read it before, I've been that busy reading stuff off it I forgot to post it in here.

and here's the pic.

Loved this comment posted by Jackie on Devoted.

Found it on a general music site in a thread about the new X Factor. Posted by a 40 year old male into rock music.

I think people are getting cynical about reality tv singers now and long term unless you have exceptional talent like Will Young then being a reality tv winner will do more harm than good,

I just think people are getting more disillusioned with the whole reality/talent show thing at the moment, it's nearly all about the freaks and judges on X-Factor, it may be good entertainment on a saturday night but the music industry looks on it as a joke now. It was so different 5 years ago as it was actually about finding a talented singer that would endure and go the distance, I think people have overdosed on these shows now and lets face it, even well established acts are struggling to hang on to their careers at the moment, let alone another set of winners and losers flooding the market.

I agree...these shows are now about people who want their fifteen minutes but have no real talent..like those on the c**p that is BB and love island...all people who want to be famous...but have no reason to be famous..

i was just looking at the mids for this week..

Maria lawson..who was on x-factor and got a lot of press when she was voted off ..is in the top 30..and chico is top 5o..

the sad thing is..when someone is a good singer. like Maria...they get over looked by the saddos who make up most of the reality shows these days...it's about Saturday night Entertainment..and not talent anymore.

why do people vote on these things now...when they dont support anyone afterwards?

I remember reading that 5 years ago, when PI was aired, no one in the music industry had any idea where new talent was going to come from.

Signing up bands was easy, they're always playing small time gigs somewhere or other, but solo artists, even when they sent off demos, they were 99% sure to have them slung in the bin without rating a listen. No one wanted to invest money in nurturing a complete unknown singer.

Nowadays, just in the last year really, singers, groups, uncle Tom Cobbley and all, are all over the net. If they get enough hits on their web site, then a label will take the risk, the works done for them, that makes XFactor finalists even less significant. The TV shows entertaining, the end result is all rather pointless now.

I don't think even established artists who have failed with their last albums are going to find a way back in now. There's literally loads of singer songwriters out there who could be the next big thing, why try and flog old faces that have failed to the public again.

Great posts and very true regarding the flogging of old faces, it's a cut throat industry alright and nobody seems to be getting a second bite at the cherry like they used to do.

Thank goodness that Will has chosen not to put all his eggs into one basket. Whether he was acting or not, we'd have still been waiting a couple of years for the next album and the whole music industry could change beyond recognition by then, there's no guarantee that Will would have another million seller.

Artists are being hyped to hell & back at the moment and then fading when the next overhyped one comes along. It's complete madness, they're all becoming like the latest must have trainers or the new style mobile phones ;)

I'm just going to watch the first couple of weeks of X-Factor, when the really hideous ones are on  Have they any idea how bad they are

No one is offering anything new any more  Just your ordinary run of the mill voices. I've not sat up and taken notice of anyone since PI

Thanks for the link Suggy. Think I did read it a while back, but had forgotten all about it. Good interview - and nice comments by the interviewer. And a good comment from the "rocker" too. Restores my faith in humna nature!!! :D

Haven't anything to say about XFactor - I've never watched it. :o

I have never seen x-factor Either nor FA..nor Big brother ..not once in all the years it's been on..it's not for me..does my head in..

where's my bloke?

TOUR UPDATE

After taking time to chill out in the West Country, Will's back in London and is currently in music rehearsals with the band in preparation for Keep On Live.

As you know Will is very hands-on and the word is that he’s been really inventive musically for this tour. We can reveal that you can expect some exciting reworkings of old favourites.

Things are definitely coming together with the merchandise and tour creative all now finalised and with Will embarking on full production rehearsals in September.

Meanwhile, we've also got some exciting prizes to look out for in the run-up to the tour so keep on checking back.

thanks TT that gave me such a rush reading that :yahoo:

Got a few minutes on my hands  so decided to have a look round the web. Came across this in a Scottish article on Michelle McManus on talent shows:-

"Everyone is looking for a career like Will Young's......"

Just a shame that so few have the talent or that elusive X factor that Mr Young has oozing from every pore.

Thanks for posting chrysalis.

Thanks chrysalis, doesn't she realise you can't "look for a career like Will Young's" you have to work damn hard, fight for your rights and release music that you believe in, the GBP enjoys and being a fantastic live singer with an awesome voice helps as well.

 I was reading down and was just about to post - I won't bother now you have said it for me Suggy. Will's career didn't just happen all by itself. Slimon reckons the people who prosper are those who take control. Shame he doesn't practice what he preaches ;)

I can't wait to hear what's he's re-working. Loved what he did with Over You and Evergreen .....totally made a new song from it. Wonder what covers he's going to be doing. Something really upbeat I hope - I love it when he lets rip. Wouldn't it be great to hear something from FNO - there are some great tracks on there. Thanks for posting that TT.

I'd never thought about that as the tour blurb said he would be performing tracks from his last two albums.

Would love to hear him do something with Side By Side or From Now On.
