Posted this in the news thread suggy.

Great to see Will taking steps to ensure more acting roles but I do hope his singing remains his number 1 passion.

Sheesh, I should have looked there first, I'll delete this later. ;)

ITV Entertainment new interview.

Thanks to Carly on Devoted.

Will Young

Will Young is rapidly on the road to legendary status. Already on his third album, Will is one of the few stars who has managed to shake off the reality TV tag.

Did you enjoy filming the video for Who Am I?

I’m really pleased with the response to it. It’s doing well with the song now and that’s shooting up the airplay charts and the album is going up again. It’s why you release singles, really.

The video is my moment of indulgence.

You did a Top Gun-esque one before this. Is this you living out your childhood fantasies?

[laughs] Probably. I like the Blue Peter one. I think that that video is one of the cleverest videos that has been out in a long time. It’s so smart and so funny, it’s really kitsch and really square. It’s coolly bland as well. And the way it’s filmed is just so normal.

It looks very basic even though it’s an expensive video.

What was you favourite bit of filming it?

My favourite bit is the elephant scene, which is a quick scene. It’s so funny because it’s so clever how they pasted me into the original thing. And their mannerisms – it’s all going completely wrong. The elephant’s sh*t itself and the trainer slips up on the c**p and they’re all laughing and pretending it’s all fine when it’s not fine at all. It’s just so characteristic of English people to laugh and say it’s fine and carry on.

Do you have a Blue Peter badge…

I do. Well, apparently I do, but I don’t have it. I think that might have been made up for the press because I don’t know where it is.

There were rumours the other week that you were thinking of moving away from music…

I don’t know where they came from – they always fill column inches. I’m happy with it at the moment. I am looking for something new. I move on very quickly from things – when I finish an album I start thinking of the next album.

I get quite bored quite easily. That’s not just music, that’s just generally – my mind wanders very quickly around projects.

So are you keen pursuing an acting career?

Yeah, I’ve just got an agent actually, literally just this week. I’m really, really pleased about it because she’s just fantastic. And I’ve got an audition coming up soon.

I’m hoping to do more auditions, that’s what I really need to do now. I need to get out there and meet loads of casting directors. It’s really exciting because it will be interesting to see what comes from this.

Is it quite nerve-wracking having to go and audition for things?

It is strange, yeah. But I also think that it’s quite grounding. I actually don’t mind.

If the audition is on a stage then it makes it easier. If it’s in a dark, cold, room in front of people then I think it’s petrifying.

It’s a good thing, though, because if you want to take it seriously you have to go and do auditions. You can’t just walk into parts. So I think it’s good for me and my ego.

Would you be tempted to head Stateside and try and crack Hollywood?

I don’t think I’m quite there yet. You have to take these things one step at a time. Obviously, if someone called then yes, but that’s the same with everyone – if you picked someone off the street and said ‘do you want to go to Hollywood?’ they’d say yes.

But I don’t think I’m there yet – it’s all about building up experience. It’s the same with the music. It’s taken me four years to build up and it can take a long time to do that with acting.

Apart from Lemar, you’re pretty much the only reality TV singer who has managed to make a career. How have you done it?

It’s a hard industry and you can’t rest on your laurels. Everyone has had ups and downs and I’m lucky that I haven’t had big downs in my career. But if you want a long career then it’s going to happen. You’re going to have huge ups as well.

You can’t always make the right decisions. I think you have to have integrity and you have to know what you are doing. Then whatever else happens about that you know what you were doing and I think that’s an important thing.

Do you have more freedom within the industry now you’re onto your third album?

The record company have been really good. They pay half of my videos and I pay the other half, and you wouldn’t find many people saying ‘fine, go and make a Blue Peter video.’ For a song that is quite a standard pop song, they spend sixty grand and I spend sixty grand and we do a really cool video that’s not easy to sell.

£60,000 is a lot to spend personally on a video. Do you ever look at the cost and think ‘Crikey’!?

Yes I do if it doesn’t do well! But I don’t mind because I think in the end you do your sums and it’s worth it in the end. I won’t lose money.

After Blue Peter, what’s the next plan for a video?

I’d like to do a big old song and dance because I haven’t done those for a while.

I don’t know if I’ll do another single, but if I do I want to do a big old song and dance. The next upbeat song I’ll do, I’ll do that because I think it would be great.

If you could get anyone to cameo, who would it be?

There are loads of people. Maybe that cabaret performer married to Marilyn Manson?

Dita Von Teese?!

Yeah, she’d be cool. I saw her at an award ceremony and I thought she’d be fantastic. She’s got an interesting look. I think she’s got an interesting, dark side to her character. That's sexy, it’s more interesting, and it’s a bit of quirk.

The awesome Who Am I? is out now

Don't think his answer really puts the rumours to rest. Sounds as if he's not really sure what he wants to do.

Amazed at the cost of the Blue Peter video. :o Really hope we get the 4th single with the upbeat big song & dance video.

WHAT WILL HE DO?

Kiki King, Eva Simpson & Caroline Hedley

FOR a man who's just been voted the Most Popular UK Artist Of All Time in a poll of radio listeners, things are looking rather bleak for Will Young.

The 27-year-old Pop Idol winner limped into the charts at No.11 with his latest single, Who Am I. And so far this week he's shifted a measly 2,000 copies, compared to Gnarls Barkley's 16,000.

Not only that, but we hear tickets for his forthcoming tour aren't exactly flying off the shelves either.

So much for being popular, eh Will?

Album in top 10 and three extra dates just added, Will's been no1 best seller on Getlive tickets all week, so up yours 3am women.

Also a complete pile of s**t from the lovesick fairy.

While they claim to be the best of friends, that's not really the case for Will Young and Simon Cowell.

You will recall that Simon originally backed Gareth Gates for pop success in 2002, after Will won Pop Idol. Now Will needs Simon, who is currently the most powerful man on US TV thanks to the huge success of American idol, on-side.

Will's last single failed to crack the top ten here and he hopes for Simon's support as he tries to break the US later this year.

However, Simon told my spies: "Will is a nice guy but we will never be the best of friends, it's just how it is."

Shut up Neil.

However, Simon told my spies: "Will is a nice guy but we will never be the best of friends, it's just how it is."

NS's spies took a long time telling him that as I think it was in his autobiography which came out ages ago. I would have thought it would have been required reading for a "showbiz reporter"!

NS Sky show biz today. Posted by cowgirl on the OS.

Would you beleive it but they were talking about Will and saying how well he has done and that you wouldnt think he came from a reality show. They then went on to say about MHP film and that Will has now got two agents in hollywood and how by the end of next week we should have news on maybe a big role in a production!! They were very complimentry and showed a clip of light my fire but it cut out half way and they joked that Will had set fire to himself. Then the bloke said guess who sat next to Will the other day at a cinema and he pointed to Laura (thinks its her name) and that is why he is so excited and then he said Wills album is very good

Wonder if NS has had a knock to the head.

We can probably take the hollywood announcement with a pinch of salt but we do know Will has a few auditions lined up so fingers crossed we hear of him having a new film role soon.

Well Neil Sean was actually, wait for it............................................................................................very complimentary about Will this morning, he was doing that showbiz thingy with the two presenters and said ( thanks to cowgirl on Devoted :D ) the usual gossip about Hollowood and maybe a big role coming up soon, the other guy said his album was very good and the woman presenter said she had sat next to Will at the cinema the other day and was very excited. I suppose he'll be back to slagging him off on monday.
I think Neil Sean should just toodle off and not come back. The man's a menace. :P

Great that this is televised so we'll all get to see it as I imagine tickets will be hard to come by. :)
