Rowetta Relishes Night Out

.......Then later still it was off to a private party hosted by Will Young, in the city this weekend for his spectacular MEN Arena gig.

She told me: "The night started out as work but turned into just a great night out. It was brilliant to see Will again. Last time I saw him he'd been with Judi Dench and I'd been completely star struck. I went and told Will that and he found it very funny

Little bit of news, this has been posted by carly on Devoted, it's from the Sunday Mirror.

Good news for Will Young fans. The pop star, 27, is rumoured to be the headline act at the posh Dolce Vita Ball later this year. Other acts joining him at Old Billingsgate on December 11 include Alexander O Neal, 37, and Beverley Knight, 33.

Thanks suggy. :D He just can't keep away from singing can he. :) Maybe his break after the Vortex won't be as long as we fear.

Thanks suggy. They were laughing at Alexander O'Neal's age as 37. He was born in 1953

It says "rumoured" though. He starts rehearsals for The Vortex then.

Will to make a guest appearance on the Electric Proms.

Nitin Sawhney, Tigerstyle and Raghav go to the Proms

Musicians such as Nitin Sahwney, Tigerstyle, Raghav, Gunjan and many more will form part of the BBC's line-up for its first Electric Proms this year.

Billed as a "celebration of new and innovative musical styles", the rock and pop music festival from 25th to 29th October aims to be the modern music equivalent of the corporation's annual classics festival The Proms.

The Asian Network will be hosting its own night on Saturday 28th October with a broad range of acts that will complement other nights hosted by Radio 3, 1Xtra and 6 Music.

Its line-up features Glasgow based duo Tigerstyle (pictured) who will play contemporary Bhangra, Hip-hop and Drum 'n bass with backing from a string quartet and guest vocalists including Raghav, Gunjan, Shweta and Des-C.

The night will also feature performances by London-based composer and producer Niraj Chag, Bombay Dub Orchestra (producer Garry Hughes and string arranger/composer Andrew T. Mackay) and former Stone Roses guitarist Aziz.

The five-day music event will also feature special performances by a range of artists including Jonathan Harvey, Seth Lakeman, Vashti Bunyan, Nitin Sawhney, Billy Bragg, Benjamin Zephaniah, Catch 22, Rodney P and more.

It will take place at the newly refurbished Roundhouse in Camden, London, a venue where the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and the Clash have played in the past. Tickets will be free.

Sawhney will perform in the FreeDM studio and draw on contributions from a host of vocal talent including Laura Izibor, Fink, Natacha Atlas, Reena Bhardwaj, Tina Grace, and a guest appearance by Will Young. Backing will be provided by long term collaborators Yeastculture - VJ's who mix film images with live feed footage of the event as it takes place.

The Electric Proms will be broadcast across a number of BBC television and radio networks including BBC One, Two, Three, Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, 1Xtra, 6 Music, Asian Network and World Service. There will also be extensive online coverage.

Thanks TT. I really like the sound of that - I really do, especially this bit:-

Will Young and Mercury Music Prize nominee Seth Lakeman were today announced as the latest acts to perform at the BBC's Electric Proms next month.

The five-day rock and pop festival, inspired by the classical Proms, will take place at venues in Camden, including the recently revamped Roundhouse.

The full programme, from 25-27 October, consists of an eclectic mix of musicians including Sixties legend Donovan, folk singer and political activist Billy Bragg and DJ and orchestral composer Nitin Sawhney.

Young, a former Pop Idol winner, will perform at an evening curated by Sawhney on 27 October. Other acts are folk singer Eva Abraham and hip-hop act The Landscapers who will collaborate with poet Benjamin Zephaniah.

Festival highlights include the premiere of a miniopera by The Who, soul legend James Brown and Kasabian.
