Thanks to Cocopop for this.

In today's Sunday Herald (Glasgow), there's an article entitled 'The X Factor's king of swing at No 1 in the charts? Blame Mother's Day'

It bemoans the fact that Ray Quinn's album will be No 1 and Ben Mill's No 3 in the album charts. All down to 'clever marketing'.

It says ' a spokesman for HMV says 'this is a significant gifting period around Mother's Day. This time last year Journey South and Andy Abrahams were selling hundreds of thousands of albums, and before that I think G4 released an album around Mother's Day'

It goes on to say ' However, the majority of the acts discovered through the contest have bombed. Winners Steve Brookstein and Shayne Ward have struggled to make an impact.

Will Young, the winner of Pop Idol, has, on the other hand, become a major success, but only because he insisted on creating his own music'

Well said. :cheer:

Podcast: Will Young - David Walliams

We recorded, edited and produced the 4 episodes of the Will Young and David Walliams podcast.

The informal and sparky conversation gave fans the chance to listen to them chewing the fat on a host of topics, from acting, performing, living life in the public eye, and opinions on war and peace, to their favourite albums and actors.

As a result, it was billed as 'track of the week' in the Evening Standard, was transcribed and featured in both Now and Star magazines and hit number 31 on the iTunes international chart.

(Naturally we also look after his acclaimed website too!)

All The Things You Are

Mar 18, '07 4:30 AM

(I have had this song in wma format for quite sometime now. It is only recently that I was able to convert it to mp3.)

After seeing Mrs. Henderson Presents, I fell in love with this song. Bob Hoskins, Dame Judi Dench, and Will Young were outstanding in the film but it was this song that made the movie immensely unforgettable. I looked for the soundtrack in various record stores here in Manila but there weren't any. Without any luck, I turned to the net for a possible download of the said song (meaning free!!!). This was then when I found out that the song is actually part of a Broadway Musical in the late 30's.

All The Things You Are is part of the musical Very Warm For May, staged at the Alvin Theatre in 1939. With music by Jerome Kern and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, the musical received varying reviews. Sad to say, the musical bombed. People did not like the last minute changes in its plot. With this, the musical never again resurfaced. Forgotten, lost, unnoticed.

Thank God for "Mrs. Henderson Presents", the song gets breathed with new life 50 years since the last time it was heard. This time, given life with the angelic almost tragic rendition by Will Young. The song now sounds almost supposedly happy yet echoes a deep form of sadness. It's as if its a song of triumph yet not yet.

I am attaching the words below just so you will notice that the lyrics are as beautiful as Mr. Kern's score. Enjoy.

All The Things You Are

Music by Jerome Kern

Words by Oscar Hammerstein

Time and again I've longed for adventure,

Something to make my heart beat the faster.

What did I long for? I never really knew.

Finding your love I've found my adventure,

Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster,

All that I want in all of this world is you.

You are the promised kiss of springtime

That makes the lonely winter seem long.

You are the breathless hush of evening

That trembles on the brink of a lovely song.

You are the angel glow that lights a star,

The dearest things I know are what you are.

Some day my happy arms will hold you,

And some day I'll know that moment divine,

When all the things you are, are mine!
