Posted June 11, 200718 yr teletext say: Keane on Stones Keane have hit out at critics who say The Rolling Stones should retire. "I can't understand people who have a go at them," Tim Rice-Oxley told Teletext. "I don't care how much money they need to spend, they don't need to play live any more. They're doing it because they want to, and that's admirable. I hope we do in our 60s." He added Keane had turned down offers to support them as they'd been busy. However who is the best band out of these two? who should retire? will anyone care about keane when they are 60? let alone in 3 years???
June 11, 200718 yr The Stones are clearly better, Keane only have two albums, with only one being half decent, whereas the Stones are one of the best bands ever with a huge back cat of classics. Neither should retire, but if one had to then Keane, as I am going to see the Stones in September and want them to show up
June 11, 200718 yr The Rolling Stones are legends and like Paul McCartney can still score Top 5 Albums in the UK & USA and be better live than 90%+ of acts around today.
June 11, 200718 yr I've seen them both live and think they are both incredible - The Stones I went to cuz my Mum's a big fan so went with her. and while I'm not that into their music they put on an amazing show. Keane I absolutely love their music and their shows that I've seen have been great too :)! I didn't vote in the poll cuz I couldn't possibly decide between them!
June 12, 200718 yr The Stones keep proving they can still cut it in a live setting, so I'm going with them... Keane frankly bore me silly... I'm with Rob though, I dunno why this comparison even is being made....
June 12, 200718 yr Author keane arnt stadium rock.... daft analogy. well they sure arent indie or alternative these days, and a bit of crediblity is nice once in a while (and AC is such another Americanism remember movie and sophomore!!!)
June 14, 200718 yr well they sure arent indie or alternative these days, and a bit of crediblity is nice once in a while (and AC is such another Americanism remember movie and sophomore!!!) they are as 'indie' as anything else that passes for 'indie' these days <_<. id call it all pop. thats what they ARE, pop groups ..... beatles, stones, kinks, trex, slade, sweet, etc etc etc etc...
June 14, 200718 yr Author they are as 'indie' as anything else that passes for 'indie' these days <_<. id call it all pop. thats what they ARE, pop groups ..... beatles, stones, kinks, trex, slade, sweet, etc etc etc etc... and so if beatles, stones, kinks, trex, slade, monkees, sweet, keane, McFly fits te definiton pop and Rihanna is R&B this must mean the pet shop boys are not pop and are a dance duo, esp from the disco/Hi NRG subgenre and in fact them kraftwerk, daft punk, and digitalism can all be listed to gether fyi: some record productions by Bobby Orlando, also known as Bobby O, a Hi-NRG dance music artist and record producer: 5BP7Gc4CTS4 Flirts - P.A.S.S.I.O.N. zant-Cy4KUY The Flirts - Helpless and finally Roni Griffith - Best Part Of Breaking Up pRLpMfrZAXQ and please compare that to NYC Beat uFaCzUr6Nuo
June 15, 200718 yr im highlighting the way in which definitions have changed... pop, r & b, indie, garage..... none really bare much resemblance to their original label. the rolling stones, yardbirds, animals, manfred mann, were all regarded as 'r&b' . which was a branch of 'pop'. they were pop groups playing r&b. trex, sweet, slade were glamrock stars playing pop, they were pop groups. whatever the deffinitions now mean... keane aint stadium rock! lol...
June 15, 200718 yr love em both but i wouldnt say one was better than the other :P ay... but one act is a world wide success both commercially and influentially for 40 plus years... the others will be forgotten by the year 2040!!!
June 16, 200718 yr Author im highlighting the way in which definitions have changed... pop, r & b, indie, garage..... none really bare much resemblance to their original label. well obv genre labels change, probs because its hard to think up a label most of the time that means anything now as all the good ones have gone (well apart from grime  ), so old ones are used and merged with other as things change and multiply. and just as pigeonholing genres are a fluid thingy, bands too change and evolve so someone like Bon Jovi is a mainstream stadium rawker, a heavy metal act (hair bear branch), a country rocker, AC-er etc etc (and actor of dodgy DTV baigains  ) the rolling stones, yardbirds, animals, manfred mann, were all regarded as 'r&b' . which was a branch of 'pop'. they were pop groups playing r&b. trex, sweet, slade were glamrock stars playing pop, they were pop groups. obv theres not much different between rock and pop, thats why in virgin its merged into one category. its all rock n roll   for the r&b acts it can be said its a branch of pop because it was pop!ular ( ) at the time but obv this was in a time millions of years before the creation of Westlife and so those groups will be thought of something else as the demographic intersted in that music in the mindset of marketeeers will be different. However i read a 'blue-eyed soul section' in one of the music guides and it mentioned acts like the backstreet boys and as westlife is an extention of that kinda thing you could trace both boybands and 60s r&b back to black music at some point (however in westlifes case it will be the ideals of the black male vocal harmony group with a huuuuge big dollop of clifftastic MOR). however suppose where pop acts have a tradition going back thru to places like Tin Pan Alley and the Brill Building i suppose rock it seen as more organic ???? (even if styles have been appropiated from black culture) whatever the deffinitions now mean... keane aint stadium rock! lol... the term stadium rock is used here as an indication of mainstream acceptance and the level of arenas that they would probs play worldwide rather than saying they are 'stadium rawk' (however in a celeb deathmatch situation think they could have bon jovi no probs  ) and btw piano rock is just a wanky genre to far
