You'd think they were bitter enemies, but Girls Aloud want to work with their chart rivals Sugababes.

The Popstars: The Rivals winners have no wish to work with another act from a reality music show.

But they are keen to hook up with the foxy trio.

Nicola Roberts said: "If it was going to be anyone I guess the Sugababes would work well with us. I think we have quite a similar sound. But it's difficult working with other artists when there are five of us. One person would look odd so it's better if we're with a group."

Bandmate Cheryl Tweedy added: "I don't think we'd work with any from The X Factor. Though there are some producers who it would be cool to hook up with. I guess on my wish list would be a rapper like 50 Cent or Eminem."

Girls Aloud were in Inverness yesterday to play at the Moray Firth Radio awards. They arrived fresh from their visit to China and, while they enjoyed themselves, they admitted the food was not quite as good as at their local takeaway.

Nicola said: "The food is a bit funny there. I asked for chow mein, and I got strawberries. Apparently chow mein means strawberries in Chinese."

Cheryl added: "I wouldn't go on holiday there. It's a nice place to see and a nice experience, but it rained all the time. I like somewhere with more sun."

The girls' visit to the Drumossie Hotel yesterday was the furthest north that they have been in the UK - but they admitted they'd love to go even further to meet their fans.

Nadine Coyle said: "It's always nice to see more places. It would be nice to play somewhere like the Outer Hebrides, perhaps 200 people in a pub somewhere."

The girls headed south after their flying visit to Scotland to start rehearsals for their forthcoming tour. They didn't want to reveal too much about what fans can expect when they hit the road, but they admitted it will be better than anything they've done before.

Kimberley Walsh said: "It's arenas that we'll be playing so we can do something on a larger scale. We only start rehearsals on Monday so even we aren't quite sure what's happening, but we have different choreography. Last time we did 30 dates - this time it's only 11 so we can give it our all. The best part of what we do is being on the road."

Sarah Harding added: "The crowd really psyche you up."

She admitted, however, that she often finds the travelling hard going, particularly after a big night out.

She said: "Sometimes on the bus it's a bit like being on a boat, with all that swaying on top. On the first day of our last tour I was worse for wear and refused to get on the bus with the girls. I ended up getting into a Chrysler instead."

While the girls are happy to work with the Sugababes, there's one act that they're not so likely to get together with - The Pussycat Dolls.

Cheryl said, somewhat cattily we think: "We're not trying to be R&B based - besides, they're about 10 years older than us." Meow.

AWARDS BUZZ

GIRLS ALOUD may have look relaxed but they had to make a mad dash back to Inverness Airport as soon as they left the stage at the Moray Firth Radio awards. The ceremony ended at 5pm but the girls' flight was at 5.30pm. One of the organisers asked the pilot to keep the doors open until five minutes before take-off.

This would be a big hit if it were to happen i agree!
The two bands actually get on really well though as observed from the TV show. It seemed pretty genuine too...
