Nimrod Antal directed Hungarian film Kontroll. Its good and gets shown on film4. however from the trailers Vacany doesnt look too promising.

Is there any other directors who have made great foreign language films and then ended up doing trashy flicks for Hollywood studios???

George Sluizer - Dutch director did the quite fantastic "Spoorloos" (The Vanishing), a truly haunting, atmospheric and above all, subtle, film that stays in the memory forever.... Then goes to Hollywood and does a remake of his film which is pretty much unmittigated sh!te with zero subtlety....

John Woo - Too many truly great HK films to mention, goes to Hollywood and just does one piece of c**p after another - "Hard Target", "Broken Arrow", "Mission Impossible 2", "Windtalkers", "Blackjack".... "Face Off" is really his only genuinely good Hollywood film.....

Paul Verhoeven - Some great Dutch films - "Spetters", "Turkish Delight", "Soldier of Orange".... Hollywood career starts off very well actually - "Robocop" (fantastic, one of the best films of the 80s...), and the actually pretty bloody excellent "Total Recall".... Then it all goes baaaaaaaaad - "Basic Instinct", "Showgirls", "Hollow Man" (the only blip in this downward trajectory being the incredibly DUMB, but somehow FANTASTIC "Starship Troopers"... ), oh deeeeeeeearrrrrrr.... Cant blame the bloke for buggering off back to Holland to do "Zwartboek" - one of the best films he's ever made IMO....

well i had those two names in my mind when i posted this but disqulaified Woo and Verhoeven on exactly the same grounds (spacey things are not my fave SF things but Starship trooper is so cool and the rest some are kinda so cheesy they are v watchable, and Face/Off is a good film with Nic Cage in and not Jessica Biel/Earl Hickey)

I watched Vacancy today, it was AMAZING!!! The acting was superb, the plot was brilliant and the ending was so werid, definatly a must :D
