All three of those songs are good. In fact at first I heard 'Laughin in the rain' and was going to post how good it was, then I heard 'No More' and that's even better!

If these tracks don't make an album then it would be a bit of a surprise.

thats great to hear! I always think Darius is so unfairly dismissed as a songwriter, witjh most harking on about Colourblind and not looking any deeper(not that CB was a bad song at all)

well he has said these won't be on the new album as he has taken a different musical turn, although these sound mature and not poppy me. But to me it would be a crime not to be able to get hold of these songs, either downloads or b sides at least!

I wonder if these were written around the time he wrote Gotta know, and simple like the truth, there is a lyrical thread running through them and a sort of follow on from the sentiment in those songs.

I love all three, Save Love is a classic -

Glad you like them. I was going to post the link on the gen.pop forum but thought it might start a surge from unwanted quarters but it would be nice to know what sensible people think. I love all three but No more is current favourite, however I find myself humming the chorus of laughin in the rain. I hope we get them on B sides although in the past the B sides have been so great and deserved better than to be B sides. He does say however they wont be on the album which is a shame.

Darius is always full of surprises but I definitely didn't see this gesture coming.

The songs aside, I've always been concerned that left with total creative control, all the studio time he wants and no deadline, Mr Perfectionist would rear his head again and keep changing horses mid-stream ...............Darius has always had a bee in his bonnet about his songs depicting where he's actually at in his life. He of all people should know that life changes very quickly and in unexpected directions.

Everything that Darius wrote before PI was tossed aside apart from Rushes and Colourblind, to which Simon C had refused to listen and almost literally thrown the tape back at him - as a songwriter that must've stung. Simon wanted to force Darius into his precast mould- he was hell bent on his vision of Darius as his Tom Jones/solo Il Divo/Rat Pack singer churning out covers of his favourite standards no-one else in his stable had been able to cover because he didn't have a mature baritone before. Darius was equally determined that he was going to release his own songs.

Mockingbird was only added to Dive In at the eleventh hour because he'd made the mistake of performing it on a one off live appearance before PI and people wouldn't stop biting his ear until he agreed. He didn't make the same mistake with Right Girl Wrong Time. He steadfastly refused to put that on Live Twice and has only promised to sing it at a live gig. Where are all the songs he scrapped because they were inappropriate back then? Does he have tapes of them?

Do people still record demos on tape or is it all digital? I'm worried that if it's the latter, he'll actually delete the files of perfectly good songs that "don't reflect where I'm at just now" and never be able to revisit them.

I think of C to B and Mercury Rising, two of my all time favourite songs. Would they have been lost? If D's Farewell which was written for only one purpose hadn't been written down and on tape, would he have bothered to bring it back as C to B? He could never have found that the two halves of Mercury Rising dovetailed so well if there had been no record of both.

At least stashed in a jumble at the back of a drawer they would still exist.

It's the super easy facility to totally eradicate a song that has been created, but which may not be subjectively perfect at that time, which worries me. I wish I could convince myself that Darius wouldn't ever kill one of his "babies". He's always been much too hard on himself, his own worst critic.

It's so good to hear Darius sing as Darius again, isn't it, and so much better that they're his own songs.

I can't imagine him throwing his work, they would be imvaluable for new songs inspiration and tinkering with in th efuture even if he wasnt happy with them .

This is what I love most, listening to songs sung by Darius, from his heart. can't beat it!

My initial favourite was Save Love but with more plays I can't decide any more.

I like Laughing in the Rain because I can picture 'Culzean' Darius lighting up the stage and having fun with his band. I'd bet it would be a real crowdpleaser live. I love the doo doo doo bits but dislike the shalala.

No More - Love the piano. I can't quite put my finger on the other sound I'm hearing in the background. I'm not sure if it's something electronic or a violin. I was so disappointed when the song cut off before the last verse. It is reminiscent of Tear Run Dry in as far as the emotions it stirs and the piano rather than guitar accompaniment. As songs, they are very different. He does these heartbreak ballads so well.

the line "Don't turn away from me" gets me very time, I can feel this lump in my chest.

and the sweeping intruments are very emotive arent they, he seems so good with the musical content fitting the feel perfectly.

I long to hear these in the car, thats when I can let rip and drive with the sound up..singing along to the uplifting ones and usually tears in my eyes if its one of the ballads! no one around to inhibit my drinking the whole song in layer by layer!! its not the same on the PC without the whole song!! he is mean, fancy saying he wont put these on myspace and he is saving myspace for showcasing his best songs and album tracks to come!! torture.

Just got in and read your posts. I also love these songs. I think I love No more because of the piano like tear run dry but I find the chorus of laughin in the rain very hummable. I too think these songs are too good to be just discarded and it does worry me like Meg that his new direction could be like devil in you because I am not a fan of that era and wonder who is advising him on this. On the other hand Pop is not so in vogue now, its all groups etc unless you are promoted to the hilt. I hope he is not going to make another mistake and release the wrong ones. I reember that he said the producer/s heard devil in you and thought it was a sinatra number and he was then thought of for chicago so it does make you wonder.I also think that these songs should be heard elsewhere like myspace and on this pop forum. I say this because there is a two page article in the DR re david sneddon and how he has had four no.ls, one in this country and three by other artistes in europe and how he is in demand because people got to hear the songs he had written so why not a more out there stage for Ds music. We are discussing it but it goes no further.

If for whatever reason, Darius doesn't want his songs out there, I'd have to respect his wishes, even if in my heart, I was unsure of the wisdom of his decision.

Thanks. I've read the article about DS. I always thought he was younger than Darius - he's 28 :o

Darius is adamant that these tracks are his rejects. I really like 'Save Love', not keen on the other two though. He said that when we hear all the replacement songs, we'll know they are so much better and understand why he's rejected these. I did say that I'd love 'Save Love' to BE saved but, it didn't sound like it would be. If enough people really like them, maybe he'll change his mind.

I'm away for another week an wont get much internet access.

If they are rejected for the album so be it but not for songs along the line of devil in you but surely must be B sides. I cant understand why some of his best songs are not put out there, it happened with the last B sides. I am away for four days also. Wish I could go to ednburgh but cant fit it in. It seems that guys and dolls may transfer to Broadway because of a buzz about the production but I suppose the leads would be stars known to the USA.
Yes, it does say on one "sort of trailer for Broadway" site that Michael Grandage's Guys and Dolls would open in 2008 with an American cast. I think it said which theatre isn't decided yet though.

aww, reject songs, I just cannot stop singing laughing in the rain, I know its quite poppy - actually reminds me of Hanson's Penny and Me - which I liked too, very catchy. and ballads I love, as I am a bit of a romantic at heart so find his ballads very moving.

if he is saying we will like the replacement songs better..then I just can't wait!!

What Darius doesn't realise is that he is the common denominator and that other than Darius, we don't all have the same musical tastes. That's why a site like this is so good.........we get Darius plus a chance to keep up with everything and everybody we're interested in.

We don't all love absolutely every song he writes.

I absolutely detest "I Would Die For You" and if he ever produced an album of similar songs, I wouldn't buy it. I'm not sold yet on what he's hinted so far about the direction of the 3rd album, but I'll wait and see if he works that Darius magic and gives his new songs a Darius twist to create something contemporary and exciting.

The tune was running through my head when I woke up. It took me a while humming it over preparing breakfast etc. for any words to come.

When a song is going round and round like that, I find the only way to dislodge it is to play it, so once "seasons changing" broke through to my consciousness, the rest followed and I played it but................... then I got hooked on Now Or Never again.
