What's your best speculation about which ladies were on D's mind when he wrote particular songs?

the new demo Laughter In the Rain

 

I'm thinking Natasha

 

- with the song perhaps having been written some time between September 2004 (Summer's gone..) and February 2005 when they were struggling to keep their early transatlantic relationship going while Darius was concentrating on his family and while the media were linking him romantically with Geri.

 

 

Girl In The moon - I'm almost certain .........Rachel.

 

When ever he refers to her it's his appreciation of her beautiful nature and supportive kindness that comes over. She is the person he most credits with getting him through the horrendous media storm after Popstars.

 

 

Resolution - Darius says it was written for Avril, his mum. um I'll think about it.

When I was looking through my Darius press cuttings etc, I found an interview where he says that the young lady he wrote Sliding Doors doors about and whom he dated fora while before she went abroad, was called Amanda.

 

So

No, I'm not sure he knew her name.

 

Right Girl Wrong Time I thought was for Jacqui. She had a policeman boyfriend when they did the Colourblind video. They must've kept in touch for him to make the big romantic gesture at Gatwick when she was single again.

He had a habit of saying girls had policeman boyfriends. I thought it showed how young he was.

I'm sure it was just Jacqui.

In interviews, he used the same thing about three times. Jacqui may have had a policeman boyfriend but it seemed really funny that so many potential girlfriends did. I think he was just worried in case haing a girlfriend upset people.

I think he dutifully toed the line and hinted he was still available, as instructed, when his "minders" were with him at the interviews but otherwise he was openly turning up to gigs with Jacqui chatted willingly to the fans and even signed autographs and they didn't hide the fact they were a couple.

No, they didn't. I think his record company thought they should. It was a bit pointless when they were seen together so often and were living in the same flat.

Their strategy was all wrong at the end of the tour. How on earth any professional thought the way to promote a sincere ballad about the fact we all have support even at our lowest point, was to have the singer paint himself as a promiscous party animal,absolutely defeats me.

 

Far from promoting Darius that promotion wheeze seriously backfired and lost him fans by the hundreds if not thousands.

I've never seen so many leave so quickly. And it was so, nothing like Darius. He's always prefered a relationship and avoided one night stands.

It had been also done before Colourblind to some extent - two newsspaper exclusives -one a kiss and tell about a girl he'd supposedly taken back to a hotel room and another story about how he was obsessed with sowing his wild oats out of doors. Hardly believable. Have they ever been in Scotland in any season other than Summer?

 

Had the people who came up with their stories and images actually had a conversation with Darius? I sincerely doubt it.

They seemed to amuse him though. I doubt they would have if they were absolutely true.

They just seemed determined to portray him as some kind of Lothario and then that was what he kept being asked about.

 

He was doing all these interviews to promote his music and the one thing the interviewers wouldn't ask him about was his music.

 

He developed a technique where he would take the first opportunity to keep talking and say a set piece to get at least the basics of what he wanted to say over to that local audience before the interviewer started the rubbish about Popstars, PI and his love life.

 

Well, that stage seems to be well and truly over now. I don't think anyone could doubt how much they love each other.

true enough, he must be doing something right, as you dont make the press until you have screwed up on a personal level somehow, scandels, heartbreak, cheating, player- then they love you

Let's hope there are no more lost loves then.

Oh yes, he did say being in love helps - as long as it doen't get too sickly

I'd like some more songs stirred by his sense of passion and justice e.g. Better Than That, Faith In Me, Don't Forget To Breathe, Mocking Bird etc.
