Glad we've got some Leona supporters on here!

I don't understand how people can say oh she's gonna fail, she's not bringing anything new....she hasn't even released anything yet so how do you know if its anything new or not?

I'm glad they're taking time on her album, better than releasing an album of covers like Ray did <_<

Well, if Leona pouts & poses just like Mariah, she too might sell 120 million albums worldwide, top the US singles chart 15 times, and have a career that spans 17 years plus. And all that without even showing any emotion ;)

This sales record was achiieved in a different era and when she was a good singer.

Nobody can sell records in that quantity anymore. Just ain't gonna happen.

You know I'm right on that posing ;)

ok Mariah Carey?

Took seven weeks to hit the top 10 with her first single - through merit and through radio play and word of mouth. She didn't bang straight into number one with her first single.

The Beatles?

Started out YEARS before as The Quarrymen, released a very limited single ('My Bonnie') and did not go to number one with their first single...a rather conservative number 17.

Whitney Houston?

Cousin of Dionne Warwick. First single reached number 93.

Prince?

Didn't have a top 10 hit until his sixth single. Took 14 years to score a number one.

Madonna?

Spent many years working dead end jobs to make it. Debut single climbed from OUTSIDE the top 40 to the top 10.

Christina Aguilara?

She started out in the Mickey Mouse Club and was very well known when her first single was released.

Usher?

I'll give you this one - I'm as perplexed as anyone as to how he popped in so high.

Gwen Stefani?

OH PLEASE! She sang in No Doubt for years who once opened the smallest stage at the T in the Park festival. She was below the likes of f***ing Fluffy!

and the MAJORITY of todays biggest acts..

all of those came out of the blue mate..

what the hell are you talking about??

where has "history proven" this eh??

Nope, you've proven you don't know what you're talking about.

If Leona Lewis goes top 10 in the Billboard chart then I'll eat everybody on this boards' collective hats.

Christina's first single "Reflection" flopped on Billboard too.

Sorry I'm not going to put much input into this lol but why on earth has everyone started arguing?

It's pathertic if you ask me!

Personally I'm a big Leona fan and hope she does well but you can't just judge whether an artist who only has released one single with the backing of The X Factor will be HUGE or a TOTAL FLOP.

But just because it has been a while since The X Factor, does no way mean she is certain to flop...I mean saying that is just plain silly because that's like saying she needs the backing of The X Factor when in fact she doesn't, all famous and great artists such as Natasha Bedingfield, Lily Allen, KT Tunstall, Amy Winehouse and Corrine Bailey Rae didn't have the backing of a talent show and they are succesful worldwide! You have to have talent to become huge which I personally think Leona has. I actually think it's better if she moves on from that X Factor label because all people expect is a rubbish album full of ballads.

We don't even know what the new single is like or the album so why not just wait before jumping to conclusions?

Xtina, Britney, Timberfake all on MM club.

Same exposure as being on AI/X factor.

Woah, I ain't getting into this debate - just correcting that Christina's debut was not Genie like some people think.

I don't think she will be dropped within a year :S Her album is going to sell well in the UK bad or good.. I think it is possible that she will make it in america just because she has that mariah-ness to her voice.. the only problem i see with her and being big in america is her nose... they love their musicians to be perfect and her nose will be slated so much :( and you all say simon doesn't let his artists make good albums and they are rushed and stuff but now that he has with leona, he should have forced her to release a bad cover album faster :s

Personally i think leona is stunning, she does have a dodgy nose but her eyes are wow :o

why do we just wait until she comes out with stuff and then have this debate

the way some of you guys are going on its as i she has already flopped

give the girl a chance

  • 4 weeks later...

Leonas done tracks with Dallas Austin and Jams&Lewis, now Timberlands prodigy, Ryan Teddy is cutting 2 tracks for Leonas album, he just put this up on his Myspace

N THE STUDIO (BLAKE LEWIS, LEONA LEWIS...)

Current mood: working

Hey everybody,

It's been a minute since I've posted on Myspace, so I wanted to check in and let ya know what I've been up to.

I'm in the studio with BLAKE LEWIS, who most of you know, was the runner up on this season's AMERICAN IDOL. He's very talented a lot of fun to work with.

I also just did a song for Natasha Bedingfield. It's going to be her 1st single in the States so listen for it on the airwaves and also keep an eye out for her album which drops in October.

I'm also in the midst of recording an extrordinary artist, LEONA LEWIS, who won X-Factor, which is the UK version of American Idol. An outstanding voice, amazing work ethic and a great gal. You'll be hearing much more from Leona, that you can count on.

I'm also writing /producing some great stuff for Mary J. Blige. She's THE REAL DEAL and I have a lot of respect for her.

I've been extremely busy with my band, OneRepublic as well.

ALL IN A DAY'S WORK...

Out!

again you are talking entirely out of your backside. How many of todays major artists that have come out of the blue have actually brought something new to the table??

hardly any..

People...dont adapt to change too well be it with movies and even music. Making her be something that is risky and new would be a certain failure, People like things they are familar with.

How would you like to watch a movie where everything was all out of place and didnt make sense, just because it dared to be totally different??? That movie would be a flop..no doubt.

Yeh, just churn out the same old c**p then and then nothing interesting will come out of anything, great attitude mate...... Then you'll have NO new musical movements springing up like Punk, Techno/Electronica, Metal, Indie, Grunge, Goth, etc (all of which sprang out of musicians doing EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WAS "POPULAR" at the respective times); and NO interesting new film-makers like David Lynch, Coppolla, Jean Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut, Scorcese or George Romero wanting to upset the apple-cart a little bit by confounding audience audience expectations, thus creating a new type of cinema for others to follow on from....

Fool, artists have to take risks sometimes, it's what makes things interesting.... <_<

Whoa... Don't know where that argument sprung up from

no one is suggesting Leona is going to invent a new genre.

Her forte is that she has a breathtakingly beautiful voice and the point of the above report, like the others we have seen from big producers like Dallas Austin, is that whoever works with her are completely astonished by her, even though they are accustomed to working with the biggest named singers.
