(Mainly lookint at GrimFiendish) So I wanted to get into metal music but know nowhere to start. I tend to like some bands adn tend to dislike mainstream bands. Thus far I've REALLY REALLY REALLY liked Black Sabbath(Ozzy), Blind Guardian, Motorhead(kinda Punk rock n roll ish). Yeah, so please fill me in on what bands are MUST to listen to when it comes to this genre, thnx.

Motorhead and Sabbath are excellent places to start...

 

Here's some others you should like...

 

Iron Maiden (I dont know a single Metal fan that doesn't like a bit of Maiden, a Punk fan should like the Paul DiAnno Maiden albums - the first, self-titled one and "Killers" cos he had a rawer, Punky-style vocal....)

Dragonforce (they're a bit ludicrous, but kinda fun)

Stratovarius (intricate Finnish Prog Metal)

Tool (simply one of the greatest bands in existence...)

System of a Down (You surely know who they are, just as many Punks as Metallers LOVE them...)

Emperor (For Black Metal, there is really no better band...)

Barzum (difficult to get into, but worth it...)

Darkthrone (very raw, primitive Norwegian Black Metal, if you can over-look the fact that some of their albums are rather badly produced and dont really do their sound justice then you should like...)

Anthrax (I would concentrate on albums like "Among The Living", "Persistence of Time" and "Spreading The Disease". Again, another Metal band with a Punk influence, they also did a marvellous re-interpretation of Public Enemy's "Bring The Noise" with PE themselves, better than Aerosmith/Run DMC IMHO....)

Suicidal Tendencies (Pretty much a perfect synthesis of Metal, Punk with a slight Rap flavour..)

Machine Head (You HAVE to listen to "The Blackening", probably the best Metal album of the past 5 years, as important a Metal album as Metallica's "Master of Puppets" - Trivium suck dick, Machine Head ARE the future of Metal....)

My Dying Bride (Dark, Doomy Metal, really fukkin' H-E-A-V-Y at times)

Cathedral (ditto, but with a more pronounced Sabbath influence....)

Napalm Death (You must of heard of these guys, they used to write songs that lasted 10 seconds... :lol: )
