CULTURE BOX SINGER-SONGWRITERS

Shortly before his untimely death, Jeff Buckley recorded a track called 'All Flowers In Time (Bend Toward the Sun)' with his then-girlfriend Cocteau Twin/Massive Attack vocalist Elizabeth Fraser.

I wasn't aware of this track until today - and it's magnificent.... a reminder of what this amazing partnership could have brought us had Buckley lived.

Interesting, also, is the Buckley documentary Everybody Here Loves You where Fraser makes an uber-rare statement about their relationship.... saying how much she 'adored' Buckley and that intially they met because he was a fan of hers.... and vice versa. Fraser had, in the early 80s, recorded Tim Buckley's (Jeff's father) 'Song to the Siren' with This Mortal Coil. It's well documented that after his death, Fraser had a complete nervous breakdown.... what a sad ending to their story.

Not sure where this track is available apart from download.... but it's gorgeous.

Whilst we're on the subject of Buckley - what a pointless cash-in this new compilation is. There is only one Jeff Buckly CD worth having - his sublime 'Grace' album.

For any fans of his, there's a new DVD of a live gig in Chicago available. It retails at a fiver.... and it's well worth getting. Magnificent performer.

yeah that could be so totally cool. think Liz Fraser has got a great voice. think i should get some Cocteau Twins stuff as i like Teardrops and loads of acts that are supposed to be kinda like them, and the Bella Union label is probs one of the best independently indie record labels at the moment (kissaway trail, dears. midlake etc etc

I'd definitely recommend getting some of the Cocteau Twins albums.

Of the earlier ones, Treasure is gorgeous.... and Heaven or Las Vegas is an almighty album - stunning stuff.

Fopp and HMV have them all for under a tenner now, too, and most of them are worth getting for the covers alone.... not that you'll be disappointed with any of the actual music ;)

The Buckley/Fraser duet can be heard by clicking on the songtitle here: http://sayanythingsyndrome.blogspot.com/20...ff-buckley.html
