Gareth seems to be keeping very busy - from the sun today

GARETH GATES has landed the lead in West End musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

He takes over from LEE MEAD in January. But first he’ll play Prince Charming in Wimbledon Theatre’s Cinderella.

No time for a new CD, then? A case of Any Job Will Do . . .

We had heard rumours about it, but no official confirmation yet. Gareth is also busy in Cinderella until 18 Jan, but he did say in a video message that something is on the horizon and he is very excited about it.

Would be great if true, and I would definitely go and see him. :D

I don't think I could sit through that show again. I like the school version but this just seems do stretched out to be long enough for the West End. It's good for Gareth Maybe I'll go and watch the first half.
Great choice, if it's true. Not a role I'd ever have liked to see Darius play but Gareth will be great.
He is and looks young enough. I tend to feel that it's below his ability though. Just editing to say that I feel it's a good move though as people will see how well he does.

I agree it is below his standard, but with him having to prove his ability speechwise, its probably a good choice to start off with. Don't know if its true though. I think the two things overlap by a couple of weeks, so we'll just have to wait for it to be confirmed one way or the other.

One thing for sure, his voice on the Soho Cinders songs was truly sublime, so these songs will be a doddle for him. I'm still hoping he will eventually be considered for the part in the Soho production, which I believe will be towards the end of next year.

Will definitely be going to see him if this is true.

Mind you, I felt like that when Darius did 'Chicago'. It'd been one of those shows I avoided as I just didn't like the sound of it. I loved it when I did see it. I have seen Joseph though.
I have a sneaky feeling that if D were to play Fagin , Oliver would suddenly become everyone's favourite show.
Believe me, it wouldn't. Darius doing something is not enough to make me like it. That's one of the things that keeps getting me in trouble.

I can vouch for that

I loved the film...never seen the musical but would go to see it with or without Darius.

If he was in it would it become my fav.....wouldn't know till I saw it.

It would certainly have to be fantastic to be better than GWTW

It may well be fantastic in a different way, I wouldn't know.
Looks like I MAY be going to see Oliver but I'll take some tape with me so I don't annoy the people around me.
I went with my daughter to see Joseph because see wanted to see Lee Mead, and although I enjoyed his performance, I really didn't like the production as a whole. Sue
Oliver may be swings and roundabouts. What it loses in some respects may well be counterbalanced by visual presentation.
