Gareth sang it SIIS very well but it was too reminiscent of the early stuff. It was like he hadn't moved on. It must have been so frustrating for his fans that there was a whole batch of possible singles on the night CD which would have proved he had.
I just felt it was wrong. It showed no development and I just thought he could do better. The new album was given as little chance as ;Live Twice' was

Once an artist has slipped from the public's eye, it can be very difficult to regain ground. Gareth is being wise to break new

ground.........panto and Joseph.......on the back of which he will be able, if he so wishes, to launch a new album with greater

prospects of success. I wish him well in anything he does.

When does the panto season start? I saw Brian Conley on P O'G when I was flicking last night. He's Buttons in a production of Cinderella.

The cynical answer, BT, is as soon (and finish as late) as the named stars are capable of attracting audiences.

Pantos are commercial ventures; the bigger the 'names' the longer the season.

Cinderella (Wimbledon theatre) start on the 5 Dec (when I go :cheer: ) and ends on 18 Jan.

Lots of performances, afternoons and evenings, I think Gareth only has x-mas day off. He said where he normally goes home to Bradford, this time his parents will come to his and Susanne house. :D

There is suppose to be an announcement tomorrow on who is taking over from Lee Mead as Joseph.

Its announced on WOS that Gareth is to be the new Joseph almost followIng on from his panto. He is certainly upping his workload.

well done to him getting the part.

Great news for Gareth. I'm pleased it has been confirmed........rumours can often prove to be groundless.

Congratulations, Gareth!

Its been confirmed on Gareth's site now. I'm so happy about this. Didn't dare get my hopes up until now. This was the announcement this morning

LEE MEAD HANDS HIS DREAMCOAT TO GARETH GATES

GARETH GATES WILL MAKE HIS WEST END DEBUT STARRING AS ‘JOSEPH’ IN

THE TIM RICE AND ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER MUSICAL

“JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT”

AT THE ADELPHI THEATRE

FROM 9 FEBRUARY 2009

From 9 February 2009, Gareth Gates will make his West End stage debut starring as ‘Joseph’ in the smash hit production of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT” at the Adelphi Theatre in London. Lee Mead leaves the show on Saturday 10 January.

Gareth Gates became Head Chorister at Bradford Cathedral when he was eleven years old, and he sang for the Queen at the age of 13. Gareth was runner-up in the first ever Pop Idol in 2002. He has since had four number one singles and sold 3.5 million records to date. Earlier this year, Gareth appeared in ITV1’s “Dancing on Ice” and went on to participate in the “Dancing on Ice” UK Tour. More recently, he performed in “A Spoonful of Stiles & Drewe”, a charity gala celebrating the 25-year writing partnership of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Gareth is about to open in “Cinderella” at the Wimbledon Theatre, starring as ‘Prince Charming’ opposite Joanna Page and Alistair McGowan.

Gareth says of his West End debut: “I have a lot to thank “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT” for as it is the reason I first started singing, after being chosen to play the lead in a school production when I was eight years old. Ever since then it’s been a dream of mine to appear in a West End musical. I am really honoured to be appearing at the Adelphi, stepping into that famous coat and really can’t wait to get stuck in!”

With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this new staging of the record-breaking 1990’s London Palladium production, which was directed by Steven Pimlott, is designed by Mark Thompson and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. This colourful retelling of the biblical story of dreamboat Joseph and his uncanny abilities and that designer coat sings out to young and old alike, with a score which is wall-to-wall hits, including ‘Close Every Door’ and ‘Any Dream Will Do’.

“JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT” opened at the Adelphi Theatre on 17 July 2007 to rave reviews and sell-out business.

Evening performances of “JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT” at the Adelphi Theatre are at 7.30pm on Mondays & Wednesdays–Saturdays, 7.00pm on Tuesdays, and with matinees at 3.00pm on Wednesdays & Saturdays. Tickets, priced from £15.00-£45.00 for Monday–Thursday performances and £15.00-£49.50 for Friday–Saturday performances, are available from the Adelphi Theatre Box Office on 0870 895 5598 and online at http://www.josephthemusical.com.

Gareth starts on February 9th so that'll give him 3 weeks' rehearsal time, presuming he does start as soon as he finishes in Cinderella. It doesn't sound much but I'm sure it will be plenty.

After all, Darius only had 15 days for Billy Flynn and 3 weeks for G & D and a lot of the latter's rehearsal time was taken up with the complicated choreography for the Havana scene.

I am really pleased too, I never seen it, but will really try to go when Gareth is performing. I have been told, its a great show.

Joseph is a great fun show. You'll love it.

I hate to think how many times I've seen it.

I have seen it several times (the touring show) and I always sing the songs in my head for days afterwards.

Hope you get the chance to see it Hasso.

Thanks, its great to hear its a fun show, really cant wait now. Better not book in April though, Gareth might take a couple of days off when the baby comes. :yahoo:

Gareth obviously doesn't have that much theatre experience, but that's probably why he signed up to do Cinderella, and according to an interview in The Stage, he's signed up for acting classes.

Well done to Gareth.

The first time I saw Joseph I loved it, got the cd, sang it all the time.

Went to see Lee Meade in it and found it very repetative....but then if it was Darius keep singing the same song I don't suppose I'd be too bothered...so I'm sure you'll love it :D

Seems we're back in the swing again. Gareth is going to be on Loose Women on Monday 1st Dec talking about the role in Joseph.

They're also releasing a recording of the songs from Soho Cinders in December. So pleased about that. Never imagined for one minute I'd ever get to hear those songs again so soon.
