(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

An "Umbrella" has come to rest in the same place on the three corners of the

world musical map. Rihanna's lead single from her "Good Girl Gone Bad" album is

No.1 in Australia for it's third week, also spending it's third week at the top

of the U.S. Charts, plus a fourth week at the summit in the UK. It has now also

become No.1 in New Zealand (second week there), and moves from No.5 to No.1 on

the European Charts. It is climbing in Asia (up to No.4, source Malaysian Top

20) and at No.17 and climbing in South Africa (source 5FM Top 40).

Mostly everything in the Top 10 swaps places one spot, the only upset coming

from this week's highest new entry at No.10 in the form of Australia's Kisschasy

with their fourth single and now first Top 10'er "Opinions Won't Keep You Warm

at Night". Their previous efforts three chart entries were "Do-Do's and Wah

Wah's" (No.25, July 2005), "Face Without a Name" (No.41, October 2005) and last

years "The Shake" (No.25, March 2006). This new tracks comes from their

forthcoming album "Hymns for the Non Believer", out July 21st.

One position lower on the charts at No.11 comes the second of four new

entries this week, and it's the second single for Fall Out Boy, "Thnks fr th

Mmrs". It's SMS speak for 'Thanks for the Memories', and now becomes the Chicago

four-piece's second single in Australia, following on from the No.6 single "This

Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race", which is still charting and is back up one

spot to No.29 this week. It's parent album "Infinity on High" is this week at

No.26, and they have just had tickets go on sale this past week for the second

tour of Australia this year (previous one was in February), which is scheduled

for some 'memories' in late September.

The second new Aussie track to make the charts this week is the first Top 50

entry for the Brisbane four-piece band Small Mercies. The track "Innocent"

enters the charts this week at No.38, and is taken from their debut album

"Beautiful Hum" which is due soon.

Exactly four years ago this week (chart dated June 16th), The White Stripes

were in the charts with their highest placed song in Australia, the No.17 hit

"Seven Nation Army". Well this week they are back at No.46 with "Icky Thump",

also the title of their latest album which hits our stores this week.

This week's sees something happen to the top of the Australian Album charts

that has only happened once before, that being that a previous No.1 album goes

back to the top of the charts. This week's new No.1 is "The Traveling Wilbury's

Collection" by the 1989 studio group The Traveling Wilbury's, who consisted of

George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Their first

album "Volume One" hit the top of the Australian album charts for two weeks from

the 20th of February, 1989, and became the 212th No.1 album in this country.

They followed that album up in 1990 with "Volume 3" which managed to crack the

Top 20, although original member Roy had departed this existence in between

album's.

These two albums have been out of circulation since their initial release,

and have been sort-after as the CD has never been re-issued in the ensuing

years. Thus the two albums were re-released this past week, and with a bonus DVD

(possibly now this could be called Volume 2 as it has their video clips and a

doco about the making of Volume 1, as there has never been a Vol.2). Which means

that "Volume 1" has gone back to the top of the charts (albeit in a box set),

giving it a gap of 18 years and 18 weeks away from the top of the charts.

But as I mentioned at the start of this section, this is the second time

that this has happened, and even then it has been done three times, confused,

here I'll explain. The No.1 album for 9 weeks from August 14th, 1978 was the

"Grease" Soundtrack. When the CD for "Grease" was finally released in 1991, plus

the "Grease Megamix" hitting the top of the charts, it helped put the album back

at the top of the Australian charts again, staying put for three weeks from the

30th of June. That was a gap of 12 years and 41 weeks, but then the movie was

issued on DVD for the first time in 1998 along with it being the 20th

anniversary of the initial release of the film, thus the "Grease" Soundtrack

went back to the top of the charts for one more week, exactly 20 years later,

August 16th, 1998. And now the Traveling Wilbury's set could qualify in second

place for "The Biggest Gap Between a Return to the Top of the Charts".

There are three more new entries to the Top 10 this week, and coming in at

No.4 is "Era Vulgaris" by Queens of the Stone Age. This is their third album,

and now their third Top 10 achievement in Australia. First album "Songs for the

Deaf" reached No.7 in September 2002, and then 2005's "Lullabies to Paralyze"

debuted at No.2 at the end of March. The lead single off this album is entitled

"3's and 7's" and debuted on the UK charts this week at No.19.

In the middle of three new entries at No.5 is "Lost Highway" the new album

for Bon Jovi. This is their fourth Studio album this decade, and it's their

lowest placed album since 2002's "Bounce" which also debuted and peaked at No.5.

Their other efforts this decade have seen those two albums reach No.1, 2000's

"Crush" (5-June, 1 week) and 2005's "Have a Nice Day" (26-Sept, 1 week).

Coming in at No.6 is "Good Girl Gone Bad", the third album in three years

for this week's No.1 singles artist, Rihanna. Her first album "Music of the Sun"

failed to make the Top 50, but her second "A Girl Like Me" eventually reached

No.9 (31st July, 2006), and spawned her previous No.1 single "SOS" plus

"Unfaithful" (No.2) and "We Ride" (No.24).
