May 22, 200619 yr Does anyone know who his agent is? Agent Provocateur? :D ;) Was it Concord something, or something? - I'd know if someone said it, at least the name of an agent I'd heard of before would ring a bell - but I don't know about now though See, more fingers in the mud pie ;)
May 22, 200619 yr An agent would work on getting auditions and such. I always thought 'Chicago' would have come from an agent. I'd expect an agency to find opportunities in film, TV or stage. The manager would manage the workand publicity, make sure it fits into schedules etc. People join agencies to get an agent to represent them to the business - it's the best way of receiving news of auditions for parts etc.
May 22, 200619 yr Sonnet said he was doing creative work in new york as well as meeting producers. Some of those producers could be musical theatre ones as well couldnt they. I must admit that I did wonder if he would be doing any gigs over there but I suppose 19 would have a say on that.
May 22, 200619 yr Without a word from himself (which would be quite easy, this is the World Wide Web .....) we can only speculate on what he is up to. Faith in Me keeps rumbling around my head and I have great faith but without some word I sometimes (at least for five days every month ...) want to get on a plane, find where he is and just say .. hey D ... come on .... whats going on??? It was great that Sonnet was able to find that snippet but FFS ... surely we deserve SOMETHING .... this time last year we had Haydock and several other gigs on the calendar. What have we got at the moment? Sweet F A If that is down to his agent then he/she needs a kick up the arse.
May 22, 200619 yr I don't remember ever hearing that he'd be very visible to us until later in summer. He's coming to the UK about once a month but not for performances. A lot of the pop type gigs just aren't happening. I think he'll let us know when he knows he's going to do something. Don't worry, it'll all work out.
May 23, 200619 yr I don't remember ever hearing that he'd be very visible to us until later in summer. He's coming to the UK about once a month but not for performances. A lot of the pop type gigs just aren't happening. I think he'll let us know when he knows he's going to do something. Was he planning do do "Pop type gigs" at any point this summer then? Just that although saying he was planning some summer appearances, Jan D said we shouldn't necessarily expect the same type of gigs that he's done in the past - I think I took that to mean (maybe wrongly though) that he wouldn't be doing the Pop type gigs anyway? Plus, people who are performing at these types of mixed gigs and festivals etc... are usually promoting current/forthcoming releases anyway, so unless Darius has a release imminent, then I wouldn't expect him to be doing those types of things anyway really? Anyway, if there's one thing I've learnt, it's that 'plans' can and do change for all sorts of unforseen reasons - If Darius is in creative mode - of the writing type, then I think he should stick with it for the time being - even if that means no appearances for a while. It's only been 3 months since he did a full on stint in the West End. I'm sure too that if there is anything set in stone gigs wise (of any type) over here, that we will get to find out about it somehow or other. I may get drummed out for this but sometimes I wonder if Darius has made up his mind what port he's sailing for now. His management works for him and they need his input. What is there to drive him now? His ambition was to write and record his own music and he's achieved that. How much of a pull for him is the performing side? What worries me is he's got commitments in the States now. Perhaps the lifestyle that suits that better is the songwriter's. He'd get royalties for any song that's recorded and given airplay or sung anywhere, anytime. It must be tempting to let someone else do all the mad promotional stuff and still pick up a cheque. He'll have had a taste of that with The Way I Do. Living so close to it, can he resist the pull of Hollywood and what about the theatre, did it get into his blood in the West End? Is he sitting back and waiting for fate to point the way or is he still proactively chasing one dream like before, but one he's keeping close to his chest? What is he up to in New York? Does it mean that he's seeking a different kind of production, a different sound for his 3rd album? I understand where you're coming from Baytree. I tend to feel that Darius is probably not particularly keen on some aspects of being involved in the "mad promotional stuff" related to the Pop Music/Charts too - or maybe that's just me that hasn't enjoyed seeing the way things can be sometimes - but the way I tend to look at it, is that Darius has been on an emense and very hectic journey of various ups and downs over the past 6 years, with a lot of pressures involved, so I suppose I tend to think that after all he's been through and experienced, that he might want to aim for more of a balanced life-style these days too. I've wondered myself sometimes, where does he go from here? - I think one day Darius will probably be more behind the scenes, but I don't think he's ready to step right out of the limelight just yet. I think Darius enjoys performing; and I also still think that writing songs and singing them himself, is just a part of who he is naturally anyway. So whatever else he might do (I don't think he necessarily has to just stick to doing one thing), he can take other opportunities as and when they come up too, whilst continuing to write songs as he's going along. However long it takes between albums and I do think there will be another Darius album - Darius has said himself, that he's writing for another album and I've no reason to disbelieve that - I'm just not expecting him to rush one out though. Darius said himself, that he was uncomfortable with the pressures/demands of the record label - so, at least he has that pressure off him now - but the relationship with Mercury ended prematurely, when he signed to them, I think it was originally intended to be for the duration of the 5 albums really, things seemed to go well at first, but things changed and in the end it didn't work out that way. Who knows whether parting company with Mercury is straightforward - there may still be residual things to sort out in that respect for all we know? It also means though, that Darius will need to find another record label at some point in time, I've certainly not heard anything about him signing another deal with anyone else and I think, if he had, we'd have heard about that too. Who knows what's going on in the background, anything could be, but Darius will know and be doing whatever he needs to do, I'm sure he will. But even if all in that regard is sorted, hunky-dorey and "under-wraps" - you can't force creativity, it will happen as and when it does, so I just feel myself, that maybe it's better for him to be away from demands and pressures of any label for a while. I don't know what Darius thinks or wants, but I know that if it were me, I wouldn't be in any great rush at the moment to be signing on anymore dotted lines, least not until I'd got a big bank of songs together that I was really happy with myself anyway. But anyhow - whenever it is that everything comes together again in a way that's positive for Darius - I think he'll be back singing and performing his own songs for us - until then, we've just got to wait - patiently
May 23, 200619 yr He said the same after Maidstone, but wasn't ready to go with new stuff so shoved a couple of pop gigs in for us. If he's still not ready, I think he'd try and give us something. He has said that he's try and be around in late summer. Chicago was unexpected too.

May 28, 200619 yr He said the same after Maidstone, but wasn't ready to go with new stuff so shoved a couple of pop gigs in for us. If he's still not ready, I think he'd try and give us something. He has said that he's try and be around in late summer. Chicago was unexpected too. He said the same what? after Maidstone - that he wasn't ready to go with new stuff? Or, that he'd shove a couple of pop gigs in? - or both? - Sorry Meg, I feel like you're replying to something in my post, even though you've not quoted it, but I'm just not clear what you're saying exactly. I just saw all the pop gigs Darius did during 2005, as being still part of the promotional trail for the Live Twice era, which began in summer 2004 - it was more or less continuous in one form or another over about 18 months really - or at least that's how it seems to have been to me. I thought that Maidstone was a bit different (set-apart) though, but I wasn't expected anything 'new' music-wise then, were you? - If Darius had stayed with Mercury, then another single release off Live Twice, maybe two, but I wasn't expecting any new music last year myself anyway. Has Darius said recently to anyone though, that he's going to try to be around late summer? - or is that still based on what he said to people at the end of his Chicago stint in the West End? Either way though, he might be doing some gigs, or he might not eh? - we'll find out when something does or doesn't happen for definite I suppose :D - I'm not feeling any sense of impatience - I think it's nice to imagine that Darius might be free of music industry/associated pressures for a while :)
May 28, 200619 yr I tend to just come on this site and post quickly - I'll have to stop doing that if it causes problems. When I've got more time, I'll try and come back and rephrase things
May 28, 200619 yr I tend to just come on this site and post quickly - I'll have to stop doing that if it causes problems. When I've got more time, I'll try and come back and rephrase things No, not at all, it's not a problem for me anyway, it's like having a conversation with someone posting in a thread to me; and I just want to makes sure I understand what you mean properly. But you don't have to explain if you've not got time, there's certainly no rush anyway - don't worry about it Meg :)
May 31, 200619 yr Author It's only just over 3 months since we knew exactly where Darius was every night practically and what he was doing. I think my impatience is a reaction to that. I don't remember being so unsettled when Darius was in the States and between albums the last time.

Ditto BT, I think we were spoilt somewhat by being able to nip to lOndon and catch him more or less when we wanted to. I wish I had gone to the stage door more often now
June 13, 200619 yr Not long now for those going on the 17th I hope we get some news of the album too ;)
