Posted June 21, 200718 yr Darius gets two small mentions in yesterdays paper. First is by that so called jounralist Lucy sweet who if you remember in the past has had a go. Here it is - Its about celebrities - CELEBRITIES like to make a fuss about how special they are compared to mere mortals. Separated from the riff-raff with minders and velvet ropes, they imagine that us ordinary Joes are falling over ourselves for their autographs. But I'm starting to realise they're actually stalking us, not the other way round. Think about it. We've got Kate Moss in our wardrobes and Linda McCartney in the freezer, and everybody in the world has a celebrity story of the 'I saw Brad Pitt going into Costcutters' variety. I mean, I'm the first to admit I'm a total nobody, but just by going about my daily life, I've amassed more star sightings than a paparazzi with a periscope. I've seen Kurt Cobain in a supermarket, Hugh Grant walking down the street, Keanu Reeves having a drink, Vic Reeves buying a T- shirt, and I once served Richard Ashcroft from the Verve when I worked in a photo processing shop (the drugs obviously do work, because he couldn't grasp the very simple concept of the one - hour developing service at all). Prince Charles, Gillian McKeith, Jimmy Savile, Michelle McManus, Carol Smillie, Darius - they've all been extras in the not very fascinating movie of my life. And I see Ken Stott - AKA Inspector Rebus - so often I think he must be plotting to arrest me for crimes against journalism. The only bit she has got right is the Inspectort Rebus about crimes against journalism. The second mention is a review of various musicals where he gets a mention in connection with guys and dolls and I believe a picture. Im back by the way - had a few days in swanage dorset with family.
June 21, 200718 yr Author Yes I had a lovely time and good weather but found Swanage expensive to eat out in.
June 22, 200718 yr Nice to have you back, Preston. I should think a lot of people will have met Darius quite casually on the street ( Not just Natasha.) He's never acted like a celebrity. He accepts that being stopped and being photographed is part of his job and doesn't have anything to hide, so he isn't hung up about going where he wants and doing what he wants like the rest of us and he often uses public transport or just walks. I picked up a copy of the record when I met Michelleh the other day. It's a 2 page spread about how musicals have suddenly become popular again, inspired by the first night of Lord Of The Rings in the West End. They have a bit about some popular musicals, each with a picture and a bit about the show: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Billy Elliot, Grease, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, We Will Rock You, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, The Producers and one which I think has only been performed in Scotland - Sunshine On Leith , one of those modern stories married to someone's music back cataloguemusicals, in this case the Proclaimers' - Chicago is illustrated by a picture of Jennifer Ellison's Roxie. In two circles there is info about Mamma Mia and Never Forget but no pictures. Then halfway down the page is the headline- SHOWTIME Trilogy tale proves that musicals are back with a bang- the article and a large picture from Lord of the Rings. Tucked under the second column of the article and beside that LOTR pic is......................................Darius! and a little piece about Guys and Dolls. Not wholly accurate, though. They give the impression Darius has been touring since April. The picture is a head and shoulders of one of the publicity shots in the light blue suit. LOTR cost 25 million to stage apparently. I wonder how long it will take to recoup that. It should run for a long time. The audiences seem to love it but the WOS critic gave it just one star. The same happened when Les Miserables came out -the critics hated it but the audiences loved it.
June 22, 200718 yr Author I saw les mis in new york on broadway but I have to say that although I loved the music the setting was so depressing and I cam out feeling less than happy. Some of ALWs musicals have great music but depressing sets and this was to me one together with phantom, martin guerre however Joseph was so go go go and I do love all the songs not just a couple.I dont know why he picks such depressing storey lines, I believe russian one is on the cards. Back to Darius and his album, read today that Simon fuller is pulling out all the stops for the spice girls return. They will receive 10 million each and a private jet to ferry them round the world with their children etc. Starting in december tour right through january worldwide but my point is does that mean DS album will be put back again whilst Sf concentrates all his time on them and it does appear that 19 management seem to concentrate on one act at a time.
June 22, 200718 yr My impression in Liverpool was that Darius was aiming towards later in 2008 than that. He didn't say that he was tweaking the album, he was still saying he was recording. Tbh the Spice Girls Reunion doesn't worry me. It'll be great fun for all the celeb mags and tabloids. I'm much more worried by the thought that the album is a movable commitment and after his success in two acting based musical roles, Darius may be offered tempting 'now or never' projects and push the album further back to do them.
July 3, 200718 yr He just can't resist a challenge and he really enjoyed doing Sky. I think, the fact that he found it more difficult was a big plus to him. He's not used to finding things to easy.
July 3, 200718 yr Author I realise that in the pop world following his debut things were certainly not easy but it does amaze me how I feel that he easily steps into the acting roles of billy flynn and sky masterson with all the dialogue, singing and then a new string to his bow with dancing again which seems to come to him naturally although I know it has been a lot of hard work and the fact that he sticks at it unlike someone who was in my fair lady and others who seem to have nights off during their run. He has had four different runs now and appeared at every performance which will surely stand him in good stead with producers.
July 3, 200718 yr Well, he does turn up in Darius time. I'd get him a watch but he has a better one than I could afford.
July 3, 200718 yr I must say though, a lot of the time it's because he is dong charity work before shows. He just never says and you only find out after - if at all.
July 3, 200718 yr I'm not suggesting this is what convinced Darius to play Billy and Sky, but what other lead male in a musical doesn't come on stage for at least the first 15 minutes? I reckon Rhett Butler would be one.
July 6, 200718 yr I just wanted to say that I've never noticed Darius stalking me. But then, if he had, I probably wouldn't notice anyway as I'm usually miles away from where I'm walking.

July 7, 200718 yr I was probabluy reading another threead and posted here by accident. I was reading an article where someone was saying that celebs stalked them. Anyway, random and me go together - you should know that by now, Pam.
