Tbh though its not just about the voice of the singer, its the songs that matter more and we can't be critised for the voices we have cos they

are the voices we are born with, you cna't change your voice, people have different opinions on singrs voices but i think its pretty

pointless to make lists like that anyway.

J-Lo - style over content 100% She's neither a good singer or actress.

Although I think I'd agree with all of those...and I love the description of Phil Collins as the singing bank manager.

To say Mariah is the worst singer of all-time is an utterly foolish thing to say.

I am no fan by any sense of the word, but when she actually tries, she can sing damn well. I agree with whoever said she just whispers in her latest music though, it's why she bugs me so much, she tends to just slur through them these days aswell. -_-

Mariah is an absolutely amazing singer  LORDI.

Jennifer Lopez i vote, what a hideous foul woman. She cant sing at all.

we all know why she has sold so many albums  its not that she can sing it is simply because of the was she scanks around in her videos and photoshoots. i wish she was locked away somewhere and never let out. she is vile :teresa:

plus i hate her with a passion because she cant sing live. hate studio/computer perfected singers

^^ Coming from someone who likes Delta Goodrem :L

Obviously these people arent the worst of all time -_- stupid thread imo :(

Edit : Im not even a massive Mariah fan but who are the people from "The Word" magazine to say that  look how many people know her and love her yet how many people have heard of the word magazine  first ive heard, they must be a cheap magazine wanting publicity

I wish people would stop puting Mr Blunt down considering he has done alot for us Brits

1.First Brit to get a number 1 in the US since Elton which was only down to the whole charity thing

2.Proved the Brits could still sell well in the states, he sold 2.7 million which is amazing considering he only had 1 big single and that Beyonce has also only sold that much with her latest

3.Has one of the most downloaded songs in America with over 2 million sales

We solute you James :D

If we're talking singers with powerful, strong voices I'd rate the likes of Christina Aguilera, Anastacia or LeAnn Rimes vocally far above Mariah personally.

IMO the hallmark of a good voice isn't necessarily how many high or big notes a singer can hit, but a distinctive voice that you'd recognise anywhere as being a certain person.

I liked Mariah's music at one point but sort of gone off it after I rediscovered rock/emo and stuff.

I don't think her voice has that much emotion but at the same time I would hardly call it the worst voice of all time. There's much worse and the worst of that list has to be Blunt or Dido. I don't know how they'vem anaged to sell millions of records when they sound so bland :/ Coldplay too.

Mariah is an excellent writer and singer.

Mariah is a smart and level-headed person. I don't understand why people consider her as" The Worst" when she can do something as miraculous as recover from a physical and exhaustion breakdown, a record label buy-out, a film flop, and a soundtrack whose sales has proven to have received little to no recognition and absolutely no promotion. She can't be that simple if she can make a come back the way she did. She hasn't been given enough credit . She has to be some sort of a genius actually just to have focused on becoming a stronger person and not letting people like the media destroy her completely. Mariah has proven to be the type of person who doesn't let anyone or anything break her down. I really admire her.

Mariah has a fab voice. Don't really like the r&b stuff but her voice still rocks.

Voted for madonna. She def is an icon but her voice is not that great in my opinion.

Obviously these people arent the worst of all time -_- stupid thread imo :(

Quite the contrary.

It is run by Mark Ellen former writer for NME & Record Mirror before breaking away to set in 1979 Smash Hits magazine with a team of writers including David Hepworth, Chris Heath, Tom Hibbert, Sylvia Patterson, Dave Rimmer, Miranda Sawyer, Ian Cranna.

In 1986 they got bored of Smash Hits due to the decline in British pop music (post New Romantic era) and set up Q Magazine in 1986 where they added Stuart Maconie & Andrew Collins to their team of writers to cater for the CD/ Album buying generation and elder statesman acts like Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Sting, etc.

He and his team then went on to launch Mojo magazine in 1994 and in 2003 launched The Word magazine which is set up as an all-round entertainment magazine (ie. features on film, TV, internet & books) but with a strong bias towards music by intelligent acts & singer/songwriters. It's last few covers have featured (Amy Winehouse, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney & The White Stripes on the front cover). It is the fastest growing music magazine at the moment within the UK.

The point of the best/worst top 20 lists are to take a slightly irrelevent or flippant look at whichever topic they are discussing and usually the best in the "heads" is in direct opposite comparison (next in row) to the worst "tails".

In this case they gave the example of best being a female singer who could not get a major record contract in the 1990s despite having a truly exception voice, versatile range and was scouted and passed on by A&R chiefs Clive Davis (Arista)(Whitney Houston), Tommy Mottola (Sony) (Mariah Carey) & David Foster (BMG) (Celine Dion) with Mariah Carey being the worst because of her style over substance - all the vocal gymnastics, diva like behaviour, ridiculous "sexy-ho" imagery instead of using her great vocal talents to sing the frickkin' song properly which you now see at every American Idol/X-Factor show and being responsible for inspiring the Britneys, Beyonces, Jessicas, Xtinas, PCDs, etc.

However now this singer who had a diverse repertoire of jazz, blues, folk, gospel and pop is sited as a direct influence to the likes of the enormously successful but inferior Norah Jones, Dixie Chicks, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Jewel & Katie Melua.

Eva Casidy - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (Live)

Eva Cassidy - What A Wonderful World (Live)

Eva Cassidy - Time After Time (live)

All those videos recorded Live at Blues Alley just 13 days before she died of cancer aged 33 show more warmth, versatility, passion, humility & emotion than the entire Mariah Carey back catalogue because she does not show off her technical ability, she just sings the frikkin songs beautifully.

Her talent going unsigned not through being undiscovered, but because they did not think she was good enough in the early 1990s is proof that the music industry has had idiots running it long before Simon Cowell......

With Razorlight's Johnny Borrell's other half Kirsten Dunst due to star in filming a biopic movie of her life in late 2007, a lot more people are going to look back at the 1990s divas and wonder why could Eva Cassidy not get signed to a major record label.

Voted for madonna. She def is an icon but her voice is not that great in my opinion.

Yeah I agree, vocally I don't rate Madonna, but she hasn't got an awful voice or anything. I admire Madonna more artistically, the way she strived and fought to be where she is and push boundaries, and she's quite smart.

Yep thats what I meant as well  I respect her as an artist but her voice doesn't really appeal to me.
