I saw Mariah at live 8 and it stuck out as a poor performance of the night for me. although it wasn't her singing that was the problem, it was her attitude

exactly!.... how can she sing with 'emotion' (soul?...lol) when her attitude is 'me me me'.. great singers of emotional music have not got that attitude, it stinks. you never saw the great singers like aretha, dusty etc acting like drama queens.... and they knew how to hold a note...lol.

Well done for posting this Jake, now perhaps all the people who criticised this will actually manage to read it (despite the tiny print...LOL) and see that it wasn't actually about who was "good or bad" in terms of the actual ability, but in terms of what actually came out of it.....

 

but man what a line up in the good!!! if only Live Earth could have most of that line up, would be worth staying in tomorrow

 

 

I totally agree with you on this, because she was reverting back to her early 1990s vocal stylings of Vision Of Love, Hero, I'll Be There, Without You, All I Want For Christmas, etc but Mariah has rightly been criticised because she has let her superb technique go to waste over-singing songs (the worst example has to be Against All Odds) or even worse on tracks that can barely be called tunes whilst wearing a ridiculously small amount of clothing .....

and remember if you want to buy some old soul greats in hmv or virgin the albums are listed under 'Rock and Pop' not Urban. :lol:
