Have they ever actually given a reason for why they show acts like Eminem and The Beastie Boys, apart from that though they are having a Sum 41 week so all is good for the moment.

Yeah i have always wondered why they showed Eminem.
For a start, don't ever be fooled into believing that Kerrang! is in really in any way associated with Metal anymore, I mean, they've featured the likes of Fall Out Boy, The Rasmus, Busted, McFly and other Pop c**p on their cover... The Beastie Boys I can perhaps understand because Slayer's Kerry King played guitar on a few of their tracks, and they have done some pretty Hardcore Punk stuff as well.. As for Eminem, I think the only justification is that he's upsetting as many people as Marilyn Manson is, so obviously they consider him "rock" or summat on that level....

I wouldn't have a problem if they played these Beastie Boys songs your talking about, instead they play Check it out, and a c**p song where they just say Body Moving for about 5 minutes. Scuzz is meant to be heavier than Kerrang but that shows Fall out boy alot to.

Kerrang with Eminem though is just an attempt to reach out to a chav audience and make some more money on the texts, atleast it's free to request tracks on Scuzz.

Eminem and especially Beastie Boys appeal to rock fans aswell

It's probably to catch a wider audience though?

I like rock and i certainly hate Eminem, and they can't put certain acts on a rock channel just because they think certain people will like them..

if it is this you are talking about then this is not just a kosher Beastie's track. its been remixed by fatboy slim

Great tune and love the Diabolik! clips!!!

anyway yeah think the beasties were a HxC band years and years ago (but think it was just known as Hardcore rather than punk then) think you can get some of their tracks from them then on their anthology. however sometimes you get fight for your right to party on the hits rock and metal themed programming too

Oh and btw trust me, they've never shown Mcfly or Busted.

I wasn't talking about the channel when I was referring to Busted or McFly, I was referring more to the excuse for a Rock/Metal magazine that is Kerrang!... And trust me, Busted and McFly have 'graced' its pages.....

but if youre not talking about fightstar here in what kinda vibe, surely it wouls have been an ironic pisstake or dig at somebody or a piece like peter robinson in the nme rather than an indepth int. emap might be ultra commercial in tv and rasio (the reason rihanna stays at #1 for 8 billion weeks) but i doubt they would go that far in k!

Yeah i read that the only real link between the channel and the mag is the Name. I haven't really read kerrang for a few years but they can't of been doing series features on those two bands surely.

well a reason why the channel will show the stuff it does its because its in an ultra competitive area of the broadcast (narrowcating) industry so empa has to go as mainstream as it can without losing the perceive edge in the minds of that intended demographics thoughts. its also the reason why things like Xtina and Nelly F spend 20+ weeks on the chart with their songs, because they play them over and over again, because its safe programming but with that idea that becuase its American and R&B associated it has some kind of edge. it will be the same with Kerrang! TV. they will show eninem as its a big hit rather than some unknown HxC band or thrash metaller.

from emap.

Kerrang!

Kerrang! is one of the UK's largest and most powerful youth brands. For 25 years it has been the epicentre of heavy rock music culture in the UK, breaking and supporting acts from Green Day to Nirvana, Feeder to Guns N' Roses, Blink 182 to Fall Out Boy. It is available as a weekly magazine in the UK, a 24-hour music TV channel, a digital radio station and on FM radio in the West Midlands.

The magazine is the UK's biggest music weekly, serving a primarily late-teen audience with unique coverage of the rock world. It is the main media sponsor of the annual Download festival (70,000 attendees) and produces the most notorious event in the rock calendar, the Kerrang! Awards.

Kerrang! Radio is the 9th biggest commercial station in the country, playing guitar-driven such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, The Darkness and Foo Fighters, while evenings are a mixture of talk shows and specialist music shows ranging from classic rock to punk to hip hop. Breakfast is led by Sony Award-winning Ugly Phil. Kerrang! Radio also incorporates Kerrang! Digital Radio, which is available Nationally on Sky, Freeview, DAB and Online.

Kerrang Radio is based in Birmingham and Kerrang! magazine and TV are based in London (Mappin House).

Yeah i see they are trying to appeal to a wider audience like for instance Kerrang FM is also an Indie station. I read quite an interesting topic on DigitalSpy about how alot of specialist music channels have closed down because they couldn't get enough viewers (Vh2 and the AMP which where both indie/rock stations) so i realise the channels need to appeal to as many viewers as possible but i still don't think they should show Eminem...

I don't mind RapRock like N.E.R.D being played but Eminem is just rap and if i remember right Kerrang had a period where they kept playing that Bloody anoying D12 song 'my band'. :arr:

Well at least you've got some more choice I'm stuck with The Hits (as E4 got BB & TMF reality progs), which is alright on Sat as theyve normally do a random countdown (even then this is normally something cheesy but hey sometimes i havent heard them all before s thats a + point) rest of the time its the same Rihanna, Nelly F, Timberlake, Maroon 5, Xrina and P Diddy tunes played over and over and over and over and over again. no wonder tey are spending like forever in the charts

:( Hehe poor you, do you just have freeview or a small sky package?

Freeview, my dad is against Sky 100%, thinks they will just end up ripping you off and going ppv for everything. however got about 3 freeview boxes stuck to one tv

Why three? Are they all different brands with different channels availalbe?
Scuzz is a hell of a lot better than Kerrang! tv. -_-

The good thing about Scuzz is they have more variety and show a mix of bands videos rather than just the same ones all the time. For istance Kerrang also show the Sum 41 videos Fat lip and Into Deep and but on Scuzz i can see their videos that are never on like The Hell song and Over my head.
