now obv you want a v boring thread where people just like list a whole lot of names, saying 'oh i like Garbage' and 'yeah ther cool' however from the Buzzjack rules below i cannot see anywhere that says you are not allowed a bit of 'pub banter'. As much as I admire Toni and Curve as a whole, her voice has nothing on Shirley's voice. To me Toni's voice is pretty one dimentional, and Shirley's got the full spectrum. It actually grew a lot through the years. I am one of those who think that Garbage's first two records are their best material but I cannot notice how much Shirley's voice has bloomed. Just listen to Nobody Loves You (from Beautifulgarbage) or Right Between The Eyes (from Bleed Like Me). The notes she hits on those songs are pretty amazing. And it's not just the notes that have the influence on me. Her voice is full of passion - no matter if she's angry. depressed, joyful, dreamy or lusty - it always has the full emoition in it.

By the way did you know Shirley had some serious problems with her voice (between beautifulgarbage & Bleed Like Me)? But she found the power to pass over all these problems

She says, "The very fact I'm still an insecure mess is probably the reason I'm still in a band. I literally had writer's block for a year-and-a-half on this record.

 

"I had vocal surgery too, so my voice wasn't working properly, I couldn't write and I was really distressed about my relationship with the band. It was a f**king nightmare. I did think about jacking it all in about a million times but what else am I going to do?"

Now that I will agree on.... Which is why she deserves a much better backing band than an over-rated Pop producer and a couple of other anonymous "Sleeper-Blokes".....

I bought their GH yesterday. The music really is amazing - not one single track I dislike.

What do you say about Angelfish (the second band of Shirley, right before Garbage)?
