You're right. I admire Darius too much not to support him whichever direction he goes but I hate the way every time he does something different, as soon as it's announced it's pointed up as a harbinger of doom and a sure sign that his career's on the slide by the usual suspects in the media. You'd think they'd have learned to hang fire and see how he does first, instead of always having to slink away or eat humble pie.

But it is great to hear the remarks from unbiased theatre goers when thet realise how good he is. I haven't heard one bad remark from an audience member yet.

There's another review somewhere from the Cambridge run but it's not very complimentary about the production. I'll dig it out.

Quote Baytree - don't know whether to wish him well with things other than singing because deep down I think I'm afraid he'll do really well and then any chance of sustained gigs and promotion will disappear at least tempoarily for quite a while.

That is a problem but then he could decide to just write and that would be worse in that he would then be a songwriter only and it would allow him more freedom regarding his family life. When you look at a lot of the current acts now many dont seem to have ties and therefore do more gigs etc. but then many who have girlfriends do both. David sneddon for example writes but does quite a few gigs as well.Regarding Musical theatre, I enjoy seeing him in that although I enjoy the small gigs as well but I enjoy seeing a larger amount of people appreciating him in MT. which doesnt happen at the smaller gigs if you see what I mean.

I'd love to see Darius doing small intimate gigs about the size of Maidstone (but without the jazz) especially if they were in London. I miss hearing him sing his own songs. Chicago and G & D just weren't enough Darius for me.

You're right, Preston.

That could be the most lucrative of all for Darius especially if he combined it with using his own studio to create demos for others. He's watched and worked hand in hand with some of the best producers there are. He must have learned a lot about using instrumentation to create a particular sound. Sadly if he did decide to do that, he'd be based in LA and any gigs he did for fun would probably be there or at least in California. The only way that scenario would happen here would be if he broke up with Natasha and I certainly don't wish that.

When I talked to him about his going in to musical theatre when he was at Maidstone, I said that, of course I'd still support him but that it was him just singing at accoustic sets like Maidstone which I found most appealing and I'd hate to lose that. He said then that, whatever he did, the writing and singing his own songs would be ongoing. He said it was too much part of him to give up. I really believe him. He is still so keen to finish this next album that I know we'll have gigs next year.

:) Darius has always been a man of his word.

The wait is awful because he keeps letting the timescale slip. Next year has now become this time next year which means another whole year at the least.

The same happened with 'Live Twice' but this time he has no intention of being pushed to release something he isn't happy with.

I think this is the last review of Chicago and it's from an American who hated everything about the show

except Darius :)

The only bright spot for me was Darius Danesh as Billy Flynn. Darius was "discovered"on Pop idol, the British version of American Idol. He has a cartoony, deep, booming voice, somewhat like John Raitt. Unlike the rest of the principal cast, he's not in urgent need of a hip replacement, and he can actually hold his notes. (Darius makes you realize how much Richard Gere was not a natural singer in the film.) But wait, what's this I read? Darius is leaving in July.and is being replaced by Luca Barbareschi.

Well, I can understnd that review but some of the things disliked were the things I loved. I loved the orchestra being part of the cast and invoved with the acting. It meant that the actors had to act. I liked the cast as well. I must admit, Bonnie did look a little old for the role but made up for it with her dancing and personality.

Darius did stand out though, he just got bette and better and, he was good to start with.

I'm sure he got the bit about a smaller set wrong. The bandstand looked exactly the same to me and there seemed to be the same number of musicians.

Also, wasn't Luca Barbareschi the guy who preceded Darius as Billy Flynn?

Wikipedia now lists Darius as singer, songwriter, musician, Music producer, actor so I suppose the music producer bit will be another string to his bow. The sun have a mention of Duncan as billy flynn but at the moment I cant find it but remember that he says he was petrified at doing this but Victoria says he had no need to worry we thought he was fab. Dont rember D even getting a mention from her during his run. Ive also read I think it was WOS who have given quite a piece about him but not his actual playing of the role, saying that his first night was packed out and there were many celebrities there including Clare sweeney (thank goodnes she wasnt Miss adelaide!!).

She means his PRESS night, when invitations are sent out to journalists and celebrities, was packed out. It was Monday, I believe, a full week into his run.

Didn't they mention that we were there too? I'm so glad Claire wasn't out Miss Adelaide. Lynsey Britton was far better

thats interesting, music producer ehh..

and love that review, I have to say I did think Bonny was way too old...

and the only high light for me was darius! in fact I cannot recall any scene other than those Darius was in to be honest,

I thought Bonnie was great - really funny!!  She didn't look too old to me - mind you, I am short-sighted -

I find not wearing your glasses when looking at people (and looking in the mirror) makes them and yourself look much younger, so I never wear my glasses unless I'm driving!!! (Seems sensible to me!!)

I liked Bonnie too and she was lovely when I met her outside. I'm sure the original stars on Broadway were fairly old.

I think the youthful Roxie was more Hollywood's vision.

Julie,

With shortsight you can see close things in sharp detail, can't you? Would you be any good at the Spot The Differences megham did for us? I'm absolutely hopeless at it.

My husband would have been very good for that. He's a useful man to have around. I don't think I'll get rid of him. He wouldn't like that anymore than I would
