I've never experienced anything like that, thankfully. The bang I remember as I'm going to sleep is when our car hit one that had just driven across our path. Now that is a moment frozen in time for us.

That happened to me once. Someone misjudged the timing and risked doing a right turn across the main road from a side street. I rammed on the brake right away but there wasn't enough stopping distance and no room to swerve because of parked cars. They were caught in the central gap and I clipped the boot of their car. I felt dreadful. Thankfully, no-one in either car was injured and the damage was easily repaired.
This idiot decided that the duel carriageway started in the middle - came straight out from a side street, over a access road for the shops and in front of us. He told the police that he'd got mixed up and was aiming to stop in the centre. The Volvo estate we were in got written off and three of us were injured. The police prosecuted him for dangerous driving.

I try to avoid right turns if I can and I hate that moment when I have to join a motorway, particularly at rush hour or when the crowds are rushing to the football match at Ibrox.

On A roads I often go left and along to the next roundabout.

I'd never get anywhere here if I did that. The motorways are fine as long as everyone is aware. I hate getting behind someone who slows down to get on - that makes it so difficult.
