July 9, 200718 yr He'd be great in that role. It'd call for stage presence and D has plenty of that and fills the desciption perfectly. He's certainly tall enough
July 9, 200718 yr Author Memories of his very first role - Billy Flynn This is an opinion from someone who unintentionally ended up seeing Darius's first performance as BF on 21st November http://darrenshan.blogdrive.com/archive/116.html Then, as we turned onto the Strand, heading for the Embankment, I spotted the sign for "Chicago". Hang on, I thought, doesn't that start at 8.00pm? We hurried up to check, and it does -- and it was only 7.50!!!! We'd both seen it a few years ago, but both wanted to go again -- so we did!!! It's a brilliant show, one of the most stylish around. The cast was strong, as I think it always is. I was dubious about the guy playing Billy Flynn -- he's a young singer called Darius who is "famous" in the UK for finishing as a runner-up in two big talent shows (one of which was Pop Idol). I thought he'd be awful, but in fact he was really good -- charismatic, cheeky, with a fine singing voice. Bas had said he'd be good, so she was able to smile smugly at me afterwards!!
July 9, 200718 yr That's good to hea. I thought he was good as well. I did worry though, right up to the moment he stepped on stage and gave a fantastic performance. I don't like everything he does and it was all so new. Shouldn't have bothered worrying.
July 9, 200718 yr Author Inside Darius must've been churning that night, concentrating so hard on delivering his lines on cue, hitting his mark, getting the choreography right without getting in so many others way and getting through We Both Reached For A Gun without losing the puppet voice. It was all so new for someone who usually roams the stage at will, and sometimes jumps off the stagel. At first I was holding my breath for him but he looked as if he'd been doing it all his life.
July 9, 200718 yr Author http://elisambry.blogspot.com/2006/05/lond...agos-notes.html Take the roaring Twenties, a city in its prohibitionist and gangster era, beautiful women and Jazz; take also Walter Bobbie, a director winner of the 1998 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production, an excellent trio of interpreters, Sally Ann Triplett, Amra-Faye Wright and Darius Danesh; and finally take a seat in London’s Adelphi Theatre; shake all together, add that “something more” that makes a musical take-off and that’s Chicago. Amra-Faye Wright is wonderful: dancer, actress and singer, it will be difficult to forget her when sings ‘And All That Jazz’, with a strong, powerful and sexy voice. Her Velma is a real men-eater with blond short hair cut, winkle glance and movements’ agility. Sally Ann Triplett is brilliant in Roxie’s shoes and she can add that touch of false ingenuity and vulnerability while jumps everywhere on the stage circled by a multitude of boys. Darius Danesh, with his sticky gel hair, reveals charme and charisma, in a memorable tip tap and in an unexpected solo. He plays Flynn with conviction, real puppeteer of Roxie and Velma’s human sorts, without a minimum of humanity.
July 9, 200718 yr Avril said that she was holding her breath as well. She was so relieved and happy when it went so well.
July 10, 200718 yr The bit in the radio interview about the number of run through he'd had explains why they had him rehearsing before the show while he was at Liverpool. He was good but, I thought he was even better at Edinburgh.
July 10, 200718 yr Author I think the pattern appears to be that once he's got it all technically perfect and knows he can do that night after night, Darius then stamps his personality and interpretation on the character, in so far as the director/producers let him. By Edinburgh he was having fun out there every night.
July 10, 200718 yr Author Tricky. There is just so much Darius has quietly proved he CAN do. That surely must be a big asset rather than being seen as a one trick pony. The opposite side of the coin is that there could be temptations in the form of opportunities he's never considered before. He's been on a steep learning curve re acting, the complex Sky Masterson is far removed from Darius trying to act as "Darius" in Hollyoaks.
July 10, 200718 yr Author You need to scroll down for this one. It's just below Salvador Dali's "Lobster Telephone" The picture of darius as Billy is a bit of a clue too. http://crossthekitchenfloor.blogspot.com/2...or_archive.html I admit it took me a few songs to get Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger out of my head, but the two female leads did an amazing job. The headliner of this run is Darius Danesh, a former contestant on Pop Idol, the UK version of American Idol. Tall, very good looking, and possessing an amazing voice, he was outstanding as Billy Flynn.
July 10, 200718 yr I think the acting impressed me most. I wonder what he'll do next? I really don't mind what he does next.....something/anything would be great...the sooner the better ...like tonight....I'm in no hurry
July 10, 200718 yr Author I'm soooooooo patient...... less than 3 weeks since I saw Darius and I'm bemoaning his absence and champing at the bit to know of anything definite.
July 10, 200718 yr I think it was the 11 month gap last time. I'd hate to wait another 11 months. I don't think we will have to but, until he's confirmed things, you just don't even think about them.
July 10, 200718 yr I dont think a wait of another eleven months would be a good idea. I agree with PIP that some small gigs in the offing would be good especially when I read that the blonde joseph is doing that tour in double the amount of cities that Darius has done with billy flynn and guys and dolls which has limited people seeing D in other areas. I also note that three acts from the x factor last tour are coming to torbay shortly on a one off gig which is an area they didnt cover on their tour. Maybe a film will be next, he does like to try different things!!
July 10, 200718 yr Author Yes, but the difference is Craig Chalmers doesn't have ties which stop him from committing himself to an extended tour. The X factor people know they have to keep their names in the public view. Darius, I fear can't/won't do the former and still doesn't need to do the latter. I don't know whether to wish him well with things other than singing because deep down I think I'm afraid he'll do really well and then any chance of sustained gigs and promotion will disappear at least tempoarily for quite a while.
July 10, 200718 yr It's good to see him in the shows but, it was the voice and songs that made me support him. But then, I'd support him in MT as well. I just love the gigs.
