Shame to see this drop off the front page.

Re Duncan James DS are reporting that he has said he's given up his solo music career. I hope that doesn't make people conclude that because Darius was also Billy Flynn, he's given up too.

If they did, it'd just be ignorance and it'd be shown to be tha when Darius releases the next album. To think we've lost about 2 yrs of songs which we'll never hear.
Never say never again was a James Bond film

Ah that's where it came from. Thankyou. I hate half remembering something. The more I think about it, the less likely I am to come up with it.
Thanks to google. How did I ever survive without it?

I don't like the way the first pages they bring up for Darius are outdated. That's hardly helpful. If it happened when I was looking for info on someone or something, I'd just chuck it.
Re Darius and his career. This morning on BBC1 there was a discussion re the release of cds. Prince as you probably know is releasing his cd FREE with a sunday paper, thinks its the NOTW but not sure, anyway it seems that they anticipate the end of the cd and that the seed has been sown by this free release in a newspaper of an album. The discussion then brought in someone from the music industry who agreed with this but said it was publicity for Princes concerts coming up in london and the presenter then said that you didnt get in the newspapers unless you worked hard. Posh and becks must really work hard!! I wondered how this would affect Darius releasing his album. Duncan James has had quite a lot of publicity this last week in various papers and on DS.

The OCC are being pressed to allow Prince's album to chart on the basis of the Daily Mail's sales. That can't be allowed. It's bad enough radio/TV having a stranglehold over playlists, newspaper magnates can't be allowed to dictate what's number one in the album chart every week.

The person from the music industry dont know who he was said that he thought it was going to be the death of the cd as money was not made from records anymore but from doing gigs and selling of mrechandise as more and more people were going to gigs, iot wasnt just about Prince needing publicity as he was being paid well by the daily mail for this release and they virtually said he doesnt need the money.

But if you don't have CDs or virtual CDs, how will bands get the exposure to do gigs at which they hope to sell merchandise?
At least it made me decide to not buy the Mail this Sunday. I didn't buy the Express either, more Diana stuff in it. It's hard enough to lose a parent but the constant use of her image as promotion to newspapers and magazines means tha it is even harder for herfamily to move on.

I didn't buy any paper today. I flicked through the headlines online and on Sky and it seemed a poor news day. I really don't want to ooh and aah over the Beckhams have landed stories.

Dont know if its ok to post this but here goes from record of the day.com

The industry has proven itself to be completely inept on many things. Innovation being a major aspect. The industry has lost control of sections of its business which is lunacy.

They lost control over free downloads when they could have cut a deal with Napster and had some control over it. Instead they scored an own goal and the result is illegal filesharing is worse than ever despite the lawsuits.

They lost control over legal downloads by not finding a way to make it work, instead handing the power over to Itunes who control the market, set the pricing etc and are too scared to revolt and set up their own a la carte service.

Now Prince has shown the recording industy a new model for artists. If as an artist you are deluded to think that you will sell millions under the present model, think again. The figures for the American record industry show that only a minority of albums sell more than 1000 copies which if you do the sums you might just break even.

Prince has cut a deal with a newspaper that has foot the bill for his album, made it available for the masses at a price they can afford and has his royalties protected. Creating demand for his product while cutting out middlemen who keep CD prices high.

Prince makes his money mainly from live music. Even if only 1% of the 2m readers that are new to Prince's music then go out to one of his gigs that's an extra million or 2 for Prince.

What you fail to see is that for many artists the vast majority at that, CDs are initially a liability and a major expense which they DO NOT recoup. One can bleat on whether the music is any good etc but we know that some best selling albums started slowly with minimal initial sales. What Prince has shown is there are hundreds more businesses out there that can finance your album if you show it is in their interest to do so. If artists can wake up and smell the coffee they will realise that they can get paid while promoting themselves and still have the option of sales which can be facilitated online at their website and of course at gigs.

The industry hasn't got a clue and it is very worrysome for those who are dependent on them. Surely they will collapse if they don't change and need to trim the cost of an album.

I don't care what decisions they make. There's time. D's album won't be ready for a while.

I'm more concerned about the illegal site I found which quite openly had Dive In the album available for free download. The industry has never protected its artists against that nor the earlier more rampant physical CD pirates.

There is no way any covermount album should ever be allowed to chart. It's like all the copies of Metro in the country ( including those strewn around as litter) being counted as equal in a league of newspapers? The Mailwould be amongst the first to cry foul.

It's a shame to let the only impartial reviews we have of Chicago go down with this thread.

If they're posted one after the other would it be possible to split them off into another thread and pin them, pip/ Sharon?

Just seen the post about pinning. Could they go in the G&d reviews pinned thread with a change of title?
