Aw no...one of the most overrated outfits ever. 'Urban Hymns' is so poor.

recording a new album and touring at the end of the year
I didn't see this one coming quite yet!

Oh its obvious they would seeing as they had only been plodding along solo and with The Shining. Think they're one of these bands that split up, get back together, split up again, get back together every 6 years or so  not like Crowded House which you wouldnt think seeing that the drummer (?!?!?) commited suicide.

However does that mean that TGTBTQ has ended as a working project and Blur is back as well?

Well Blur are all coming back together (including Graham Coxon) to do one final album apparently.

Great news about The Verve - good to see that they are no longer "History". :D

Personally, if you have to blame an act for starting this 21st Century craze for reforming then it is Duran Duran's fault after they reformed in 2002 with their famous 1980-1985 (Taylor x3, Rhodes, LeBon) line-up.

Wasn't Urban Hymns full of songs that Richard Ashcroft were going to release on his own but decided to release them through The Verve, so really this modern material will just be like an Ashcroft solo effort?

A bit like a solo Johnny Borell....there'd be no difference

Excellent news though

The Verve are reportedly reforming for a new album and autumn tour.

The band’s four original members, Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Salisbury, were recording in a London studio last week, according to a statement on www.theverve.tv.

The statement adds that the band will return to the studio to complete the album after a summer break and that they will play six UK shows in November.

These are: Glasgow Academy, November 2-3, Blackpool Empress Ballroom, November 5-6, and London Roundhouse, November 8-9. Tickets go on sale July 6.

Led Zeppelin are also reported to be reforming for a world tour as well as a concert in tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Erttegun, who died last year.

somehow i doubt if all these bands are following the career of Duran Duran and thinking thats a good idea why dont we do that.

however that Nick Rhodes dude kinda looks very proto-emo in that picture in the radio times with Princess Diana this week, so maybe he's to blame/to celebrate for MCR

I love that one song that was huge in America back in the 90's. Don't know the name though
