Led Zeppelin to reunite for memorial

'70s rock band Led Zeppelin are to reunite for a performance in honour of their former record boss.

The news has come amidst rumours that the band are about to embark on a world tour, having only played together a few times since their split in 1980.

The reunion is expected to take place in London where Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones are expected to be joined by the late John Bonham's son, Jason.

A source told WENN: "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date. And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.”

Led Zeppelin are reportedly about to reunite for a one-off memorial concert.

If true, it would mark the third time that the '70s legends have played since disbanding.

After the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, founding members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones regrouped for Live Aid in 1985 (with Phil Collins) and for Atlantic Records' 40th Anniversary concert (with Bonham's son Jason).

It is now suggested that the latter formation will play a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London.

A source said: "Page, Plant, and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date.

"And no one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.

"It has been hoped for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year."

Ertegun died in December 2006, following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert. The likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, and Crosby, Stills & Nash all played his New York memorial in April of this year.

Robert Plant banks at the same bank as me. I have been behind him in the queue twice.

Looks like he may be paying in a little more often.

I've always respected Led Zeppelin for the way that they conducted themselves with great dignity and called it a day after the death of John Bonham, truly the greatest drummer of his (well, really ANY tbh...) generation and pretty much ensuring their status as Rock Gods with an untarnished musical reputation, creating masterpieces which make the likes of about 99% of today's Rock or Metal lot look frankly rather second rate... I am fairly eager to see how this would actually pan out tbh, Jason is a pretty good sticksman in his own right, got a fair bit of his dad's style and ability... I just dunno whether "Percy" Plant really has the ability these days to hit the spectacular notes he once made so effortless..... I have no such doubts about either John Paul Jones' or Jimmy "God" Page's abilities however......

Percy Plant??? Is that his real name or is it for another reason why you've called him Percy? (for example a ref to the 1971 film starring Hywel Bennett, Denholm Elliott, Elke Sommer and Britt Ekland ... )

That IS where he got his nickname from!

I've never been a fan of Led Zeppelin, but there one of the bands I respect for the impact they've had on real rock/metalmusic.

Plant denies Led Zeppelin rumours

Robert Plant has insisted that rumours of a Led Zeppelin reunion are untrue.

Recent reports claimed that the existing members of the rock band were planning to reform for a one-off concert as a tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died in December last year.

However, speaking at a press conference for the Greek Rockwave Festival, the singer denied any knowledge of such a plan.

He joked: "If there was one [a reunion], then there wouldn't be enough doctors to support it!"

Do you believe him or is Robert talking from the Melanie C, Freema Agyeman school of "truth"?
