Pink to tour SA

Durban - Pink, one of the more interesting and enigmatic pop stars of her generation, will be coming to South Africa in September to perform shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with Durban again snubbed by concert organisers as a venue for an international artist.

Characterised by wacky hair-dos, the 28-year-old pop sensation, whose real name is Alecia Moore, will perform on her 29th birthday at Sun City on September 8 and in the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg on September 9 before heading to Cape Town to the Bellville Velodrome for a show on September 11.

Pink broke on to the music scene in 2000 with her R'nB based Can't Take Me Home, and is known for hits such as Get This Party Started, Just Like a Pill and more recent numbers Stupid Girls and Dear Mr President from her recent album I'm Not Dead.

Having sold over 25 million albums, the multiple Grammy award winner recently sold the most concert tickets in an Australian arena tour for a woman artist, shattering Australian songbird Kylie Minogue's home record. She played 36 sell out concerts in Australia and New Zealand gigs to more than 310 000 fans.

Artists who have recently toured South Africa but have not paid a visit to KwaZulu-Natal include Billy Joel, Cliff Richard and Il Divo. Big Concerts told "The Witness" that they were not offered enough tour dates to accommodate a show in KwaZulu-Natal.

Tickets are available from Wednesday at www.computicket.com, 083 915 8000 and all outlets. For more information on the artist, visit Pink's website at www.pinkpage.com, while www.bigconcerts.co.za has more information on the shows.
